Track specialist Adam Shields withdrew after a fall in his second ride. Australia called up Justin Sedgman as a late replacement for Jason Doyle, who is nursing a recurring shoulder injury. Not present were Darcy Ward or Troy Batchelor and Australia were forced to race in the test match with six riders. Still, scores were level after heat seven. For Great Britain Ben Barker stole the plaudits with a paid 14 point score, beating such notables as Chris Holder and Rory Schlein. Barker may well have scored more, excluded in one heat.
