I still have not recovered from the first close down in the early '80,s. I drifted to Hackney, Arena Essex, London and then moved to the Midlands but will always be a Don's supporter ... even after the stadium has gone. I just wish I had taken more pics of the stadium and riders ... and supporters of the '60s, '70s but it is all fresh in my head. Good memories...

SOUTH LONDON PRESS, issue dated Friday March 18, 2016. From your newsagent. Toby Porter, sports editor of the SLP writes: "There is a full page dedicated to the final stocks and rods meeting on Sunday, March 20 – a piece by Daniel Ruston about their history at Wimbledon from 1962, when the late Les Eaton of Spedeworth brought them to the stadium, to the likes of Derek Warwick, Martin Brundle and, er, Stirling Moss racing there. "There is also a piece by Derek Barclay about speedway there; and by myself (Toby Porter) about the second last meeting last weekend on Sunday, March 13. (I have lived within audible distance of the engines for 20 years and went last weekend and spoke to a couple of people). "There are also some good pictures. Your South London area newsagent should have a copy for sale."

There has been a surprise happening in regard to Wimbledon Stadium. After all the closure talk - and this is not speedway but is a motorsport happening - the opening meeting of the oval car racing season on Sunday, October 2, 2016, has been announced by promoting group Spedeworth Motorsport.Attachments:

The previous message in regard to what looks like a continuation of stock car racing at Wimbledon Stadium hopefully will lessen some of your gloom Johnrnb? One day -who knows - speedway back as well?

This is something of a surprise - and is not speedway - but the stock cars are set to race on the Wimbledon track at5.30pm onwards on Sunday October 2. Could there be hope that speedway might yet return to Plough Lane at some date in the future?

Plough Lane used to be the most luxurious stadium in speedway. Keep hope while it still stands. (Could we have Ronnie Moore back as well !! ..... ...)

Plough Lane used to be the most luxurious stadium in speedway. Keep hope while it still stands. (Could we have Ronnie Moore back as well !! ..... ...) You may have heard that Spedeworth International have some sort of extension and plan a few regular stock car meetings as from 5.30pm on Sunday, October 2, 2016. I know it's not speedway but it is another chance to get into the stadium, look round, and rekindle a few old memories - MAYBE.Attachments:

Further to the previous Post: London's last motorsport racing stadium goes under the demolition hammer. It should have an effect for followers of this forum - the end of the last London stadium to stage speedway. And - guess what - not one adverse comment so far by any LONDON SPEEDWAYS forum member!
