Garrity Signs For Rye House For 2012! Following full agreement with his parent club, Belle Vue, it can now be confirmed that the seventh and final member of the 2012 Silver Ski Rockets team will be Jason Garrity who is probably the most sought after teenager in the country at present. The Manchester-born rider – who celebrated his 18th birthday earlier this month - was a double national champion in 2011, winning the British U-19 and the National League Riders' titles. Both events were staged at the Hoddesdon circuit, and it was little surprise that Jason elected to ride for the Rockets to maintain the momentum of his blossoming career. As he himself said on signing for the team, “I just love the track, and I think I can win a lot of races there, so it was any easy decision for me once I knew that Len (Silver) was interested." Comments from Rye House promoter Silver confirmed his high opinion of the young teenager. "Jason demonstrates a winner's attitude, and in one so young that is very refreshing. I believe this boy can go all the way and I expect that we at Rye House will play a big part in his future development. It gives my team an exciting duo of teenagers, with Jason joining with Tyson Nelson for 2012, and I am very excited at the prospect." A quick glance at Garrity’s overall 2011 statistics confirms the excitement that surrounds him. His U-19 and NLRC crowns tell an important part of the story, but there was much more to his campaign than that. He also finished 6th in the British U-21 Championship, while on a team front, he was a key driver for Belle Vue’s National League Colts and achieved a tremendous 4.43 average (inc bonus points) from nine official appearances for Premier League Leicester. He was even given his Elite League debut by Belle Vue in the Aces’ top flight match at Peterborough! It has certainly been a roller-coaster ride for the teenager who first turned heads by winning the British U-15 Championship in 2008, and one that will now continue into 2012 at Rye House. The full 2012 Silver Ski Rockets team – now approved by the BSPA - is: Chris Neath, Jordan Frampton, Tyson Nelson, Ritchie Hawkins, Luke Bowen, Jason Bunyan, Jason Garrity

Happy New Year: The Countdown to the 2012 Season is Definitely On Rye House Speedway would like to send its best wishes to all Silver Ski Rockets and Raiders supporters for a happy and prosperous New Year. The Rockets are shortly hitting the slopes for their now-annual ski holiday that will jointly serve as a team building exercise, as they count down toward the opening night of their 2012 home programme against Ipswich in the Anglia Cup on Saturday, March 17th (7pm). As previously confirmed, “Mr Rocket” rider of the year recipient Chris Neath will be captaining a side that combines familiarity with two exciting new arrivals. Five of last year’s team will be returning to Hoddesdon, with Neath joined by back-to-back British Finalist Jordan Frampton, 2004 British U-21 Champion Ritchie Hawkins, local hero Luke Bowen and fast-emerging Aussie teenager Nelson. The new faces in town come in the form of 6-time New Zealand titlist Jason Bunyan, who arrives on what looks a “steal” average of 4.74 after an injury-shortened 2011, and explosive British U-19 and NLRC winner Jason Garrity. The re-born Rye House Raiders are also close to completion, with former League Riders Champion David Mason, British U-19 silver medallist Shane Hazelden and bronze winner Ben Morley retained from last season’s Hackney Hawks to head the squad’s National League assault. 18 year old James Sarjeant – 4th in the U-19 event – has joined from Stoke, while Lee Strudwick is ending a year away from the sport to complete the top five. The two reserve slots will be filled from the Rye House Saturday Training School, with 28 year old Nick Lee already hotly favoured for one of the spots. As other plans for the 2012 programme fall into place, Rye House can also confirm its admission charges for the new campaign, and it’s positive news in that regard. First off, Rockets’ normal fixtures will see no pricing change from 2011, with Adults remaining at £16, Seniors at £14, Children (12-16) at £5 and Children U-12 FREE. The match programme will be £2. The Raiders’ standard National League fixtures, meanwhile, will see a REDUCTION from 2011 Hackney prices for all Adults at £10, Children (12-16) remaining at £5 and Children U-12 again FREE. The race card will be £1. The final piece of good news is that double header (Premier League/National League) events will be priced as per Premier League level matches, ie there will be no additional admission charge for the Raiders element, with only an increase in the match programme to £3 being implemented to help offset the additional costs of staging these meetings.

January 6 2012::
Nelson Gets Doubling-Up Elite League Spot Exciting teenager Tyson Nelson has been rewarded for his rapid progress with a doubling-up spot with Elite League Birmingham. The 18 year old Aussie – rapidly dubbed “The No Fear Cavalier” at Rye House - turned plenty of heads in his first British season in 2011 as what began as ostensibly frenetic displays of pure courage matured into consistent points gatherings. His tail-end form included tremendous scores such as 15 at Workington, 16 against Sheffield and 17 versus Scunthorpe - which all built to an impressive 5.33 average that was nearer the 6 mark when bonus points were included. Set to take those statistics to the next level with the Silver Ski Rockets in 2012, Nelson will now also share an Elite League position with Josh Auty in the Brummies’ line-up. It is a development that Rye House promoter Len Silver sees as highly beneficial to both the Australian and the club. Silver said, “I see this as a very positive step in Tyson’s advancement, and the Elite League meetings will no doubt bring an improvement into various aspects of his racing that will also help him to score points for the Rockets.”

Rockets News From Down Under Both new recruit Jason Bunyan and second year Silver Ski Rocket Ritchie Hawkins have been seeing action in New Zealand over the last few days, but with very conflicting results. Both were involved in the opening two rounds of the Elf/Sunday News International Solo Series, staged at Moore Park and Ruapuna respectively. Bunyan – already dubbed “The Man in Black” for his trademark all-black kevlars and styling – was in fine form in both, placing second behind Jesper Kristiansen in the first meeting and winning the second in a canter. Hawkins, though, unfortunately suffered a heavy fall at Moore Park, escaping from that tumble with heavy bruising – but also writing off one of his two machines. Ruapuna was little better, as he wrecked his clutch, then suffered a dramatic blow-up to his engine to leave him without a bike to ride. But, on a lighter note…. Feisty One He Is – On Shale or Snow! The Silver Ski Rockets’ latest teenage recruit, Jason Garrity has already learned a few lessons as part of his team bonding ski trip with his new Rye House colleagues. His first concerned the murky waters of international currency exchange rates. Convinced that he was heading to Switzerland, rather than his actual destination of France, the 18 year old converted £300 into Swiss Francs, then, on realising his mistake, had to swiftly change the money back again to sterling only to discover that his original £300 had shrunk by 10%! Ah, the harsh realities of banking! The story doesn’t end there, however. On arrival, some 7,000 feet above sea level, in La Plagne, the British U-19 and National League Riders Champion quickly changed into his brand new ski-wear, was fitted out with skis and boots and rushed out to join Chris Neath and Luke Bowen as they set off for an afternoon session. Of course, he had never previously skied in his life, but undaunted he followed them onto the piste…. only to find himself heading straight down at breakneck speed, flying past both Chris and Luke who watched in amazement as he careered ahead. Somehow, despite his total lack of experience and probably through the sheer guts and determination which have already become his trademark on the shale, he managed to stay upright until he finally came to a halt some 400 yards below. Promoter Len Silver found his "straight-line" technique highly reminiscent of the first time that Steve Boxall put on skis, while – needless to say – both Chris and Luke found the whole event hilarious, as Jason's escapades started the week's holiday off in uplifting style.

Bunyan Named to NZ Grand Prix The World Speedway Controlling Authority (F.I.M.) have confirmed this weekend that Jason Bunyan, a new recruit into the Rye House Silver Ski Rockets team for 2012, has been named as the "Wild Card" in the New Zealand Grand Prix due to be staged there on March 31st. It is the first time ever that a Rye House rider has been honoured with a full place in a round and it follows many years of successful performances by Bunyan – as a 6-time New Zealand national champion - in the Southern Hemisphere. Whilst bringing the prestige to the Hoddesdon team, it gives him an almost nightmare travelling schedule in order to compete. The Man in Black is racing in New Zealand at present, with his usual highly successful performances, and returns to UK in time for the Rye House team practice sessions in early March. He joins his new team mates in official action first at Ipswich on March 15th, then at home for the Rye House opener on Saturday March 17th, on to Plymouth on March 23rd and at home again on March 24th, then a fast run to the airport to depart for New Zealand with the rest of the Grand Prix troupe on Sunday March 25th. Finally, the Grand Prix complete, Jason will return to the Rockets team in time to race at Leicester on Easter Saturday.

Six-Shooter Fired Up For New Campaign Fast-emerging Rye House star Tyson Nelson – remember the motto: six letters, one aim - has demonstrated his mission for the new season by investing heavily in new equipment in the shape of two new engines and new frame kits so that he will have three three complete bikes and one spare engine in time for the new term. Having spent a comparatively quiet winter in his homeland, the Aussie teenager will arrive in UK at the end of February, by which time his machines will have been prepared by former international stars Andrew Silver and Sean Wilson, in order to get as much track action as possible ahead of the Silver Ski Rockets’ opening matches at Ipswich (Thursday, March 15th) and home to the Witches (Saturday, March 17th @ 7pm). Rye House boss Len Silver and team manager John Sampford have both placed much faith in the No Fear Cavalier, expecting him to rise to heat leader standard in the early part of the year, following a series of excellent double figure scores both home and away at the tail end of 2011. As Sampford emphasises, “If Nelson lives up to our expectations, then the whole team will take on a much more powerful look, and judging from his financial outlay, the boy certainly intends for that to happen”. Elsewhere, the Rockets’ other exciting teenage prospect, British U-19 Champion and NLRC winner Jason Garrity so enjoyed the team's recent ski-ing trip to La Plagne in France that he has returned there under his own steam to undertake another two weeks on the snow. He will be linking up with team captain Chris Neath – who celebrated his 30th birthday on Sunday – who is also scheduled back in the mountains next week. The two riders have rapidly become firm friends, ensuring that Garrity will receive plenty of advice and support from the long-serving Rye House skipper as the new season gets underway.

Anglian Junior League Returns
The Managements of Rye House, Ipswich, Kings Lynn, Lakeside, Mildenhall and Peterborough are delighted to announce the reformation of the Anglian Junior League.
First staged in 1978 the League was a rich training ground for stars of the future and now returns to allow the current crop of would-be riders to make the jump from training schools to the National League.
Teams will meet twice home and away, and matches will be run over the six Heat four Rider format, with the action following full team meetings (with the exception of Lakeside who will run before their main matches).
Says BSPA Vice Chairman Jon Cook, "The Anglian League provided a rich vein of talent in days gone by and we hope to do the same again. It is tough for riders to break into league racing and this venture will fill the gap between training and the National League, and give riders a competitive environment in which to develop. Leagues of this kind already operate in the Midlands and Northern sectors, and its the aim of the BSPA to increase activities of this kind as we work towards an organised programme to take young Brits from their first tentative laps right the way through to the National team,"
The Anglian Junior League was founded in 1978 by Boston, Crayford, Ipswich, Rye House, Cradley, Kings Lynn, Peterborough, Mildenhall, Leicester and Hackney, and riders who went on to enjoy long and successful careers from those initial seasons included Richard Knight, Kevin Smith, Marvyn Cox, Andy Campbell, Martin Goodwin, Carl Blackbird, Kevin Teager and Tim Hunt. The search for new stars begins in 2012.

Message flagged Friday, 3 February 2012, 18:25 2012 Rye House Fixtures Published The Premier League fixture list for 2012 has now been released. It confirms that the Silver Ski Rockets will open their campaign with a League Cup (formerly Premier Trophy) trip to Ipswich on Thursday, March 15th, before returning the favour in their own home opener against the Witches just two nights later. The Rockets will formally welcome New Zealand GP wildcard Jason Bunyan and British U-19 and NLRC winner Jason Garrity on board for the occasion as they battle a Suffolk side that itself includes established star Kevin Doolan, newly crowned Australian U-21 Champion Taylor Poole and highly rated prospect Cameron Heeps. From there, the Rockets will divert their attention to the little matter of their League opener, as 2011 runners-up Sheffield visit Hoddesdon on Saturday, March 24th, before the concentration returns to the League Cup as Rye complete their round robin fixtures with the aim of top spot in the southern group and a place in the national final. Elite League Peterborough are also being lined up for an intriguing inter-league challenge match on Saturday, March 31st, in a match that would mean the return of former hero Linus Sundstrom. Further downstream, the Rockets will tackle Edinburgh in the opening round of the Knock-Out Cup, with the tie scheduled to be settled at Hoddesdon on Saturday, May 26th, just 24 hours after the two sides meet in the first leg north of the border. Other fixture highlights include the return of Ipswich to town – this time on Premier League duty – on Monday, June 4th, as part of a double header also involving National League action, and the visit of defending League Champions Glasgow on Saturday, July 21st. Once the 26 match League programme is completed, the top six finishers will then progress to the Play-Off stage, which will initially be run on a group format. The top two seeds will select their opponents for what will be two groups of three teams – again contested on a once-at-home and once-away basis – with the two second stage winners then contesting the Championship Final. Teams finishing seventh to twelfth will enjoy their own end of season Play-Off competition, run on similar lines to the Championship format. The bottom two teams in the League will not be involved. Although the fine detail of the National League programme is not yet decided, the planned home dates for the Raiders are included in the schedule below. The Raiders will compete in an eight team League, with the top four teams progressing to the Championship Play-Offs, while the Knock-Out Cup draw brings first round opposition from the Isle of Wight . Rockets – and Woffy! – Getting Ready For Panthers Originally announced last week as a provisional fixture, the Silver Ski Rockets have now confirmed their Inter-League challenge match against East Anglian neighbours Peterborough on Saturday, March 31st (7pm start). What’s more, as well as bringing Elite League opposition to town, the meeting now offers a rather special and exciting twist. While new Rye House signing and multi-time New Zealand national Champion Jason Bunyan will be missing in action as he competes as a Wildcard in the opening Grand Prix down under, guest coverage means that his place in the Rockets’ line-up will be taken by none other than former Rye hero Tai Woffinden! The international Lion is still fondly remembered for his two tremendous years as a Rocket in 2007 and 2008, winning the Premier League title with the club in the first of those two seasons. Now an Elite League Wolverhampton Wolf, his solo record already includes two British U-21 and U-18 crowns, the Premier League Riders Championship and a spot in the 2010 Grand Prix series. Not bad for someone who is still just 21. Woffy is not the only star returning to Rye House for one night only, however. Linus Sundstrom was a huge fan favourite in Hertfordshire in 2009 and 2009 before making great Elite League strides with the Panthers last term. His return to Hoddesdon on March 31st sets up the exciting prospect of two of Rye’s finest previous team members battling for the first time at their former stamping ground. Given each became a leading Premier League star while racing in the Rockets' colours, there is bound to be both mutual respect and fierce rivalry to see who will achieve the ultimate bragging rights. Joining Sundstrom in the Panthers’ team will be a highly popular visitor to Rye House, Olly Allen – who won the Ace of Herts at the circuit in 2010 – plus former Grand Prix star Jesper B. Monberg, World U-21 competitor Kyle Newman and new Danish sensation Michael Jepsen Jensen, who made quite an impact at the East of England Showground in his late-season appearances in 2011 and also placed 6th in the global U-21 Championship. Rye House promoter Len Silver commented on the news, "I am over the moon to be able to see our two great favourites pitting their skills against each other on the track that they both graced not long ago. I am also deeply grateful to Rick Frost and Trevor Swales in helping to put this fixture on our list. It’s one we are all looking forward to already." The countdown has started.

Rye House Press and Practice Day It’s not just the Silver Ski Rockets’ home opener (vs Ipswich on Saturday, March 17th) or their much anticipated Inter-League challenge against Linus Sundstrom’s Peterborough side (March 31st) that are rapidly coming around. The team has named the three days of Thursday, March 8th through to Saturday the 10th as its pre-season practice days, with the middle date of Friday, March 9th at 11am confirmed as the official Press Day at the Hoddesdon circuit for both the Rockets and the National League Raiders.

Rockets Answer Rebels’ Yell Following a request for help from Somerset Co-Promoter Debbie Hancock, following deliberations from Newport which have left the Oak Tree Arena club without a potential fixture on Good Friday, the Silver Ski Rockets have agreed to be the Rebels' opponents down in the West Country that day (April 6th) instead of on the originally scheduled date of April 20th. Explained Rye House supremo Len Silver, "Although we have a fixture at Rye House on the same day at 7pm, when the newly re-formed Raiders take on The Isle of Wight in a KO Cup match, I could not see the Somerset promotion go without a fixture on one of the prime dates of the year. I will be sorry not to be at Somerset in person but I'm sure my seven men will give a good account of themselves under the care of team manager John Sampford". Talking of the Raiders, the Good Friday fixture will be their first at home in 2012. In addition to the already announced international challenge match against USA Future (Saturday, April 14th), other early season home dates now see the National League side entertain Stoke as the second part of an Easter Monday double header at Rye House, with Dudley heading to Hertfordshire on Saturday, May 5th and Buxton following two days later as part of another double header.

The Future Is Calling The 2012 Rye House season is now exactly a month away, with the Silver Ski Rockets kick-starting their campaign at Ipswich on March 15th before hosting the Witches in their Hoddesdon opener, on Saturday, March 17th (7pm).
The National League Raiders’ own season follows not far behind, with early home fixtures already announced against the Isle of Wight (KO Cup, Good Friday at 7pm) and Stoke (Easter Monday, following the Rockets-Leicester clash that starts at 2pm). The Cobras will also face international opponents on Saturday, April 14th, as the US Future team visit Hertfordshire as part of a four match tour. Five of the American squad will represent the Eagles in the U-21 World Cup round in the Ukraine, with the objective of developing riders that can fly the flag in the senior World Cup event in a few years’ time.
Tour organiser Steve Evans has already named three of the roster that will be landing in Britain. 20 year old New Yorker Mike Buman featured at Rye House when the tourists visited these shores last April, top-scoring for the side with paid 17 at Dudley and going on to represent his country in both the U-21 Championship and World Cup. This will be Buman’s fourth tour, and he has already been confirmed as team captain. His clearly stated aim is be the first New York based rider in the Premier League!
Californian Aaron Fox (23) is one of the fast rising former Moto-Cross riders in the States, making rapid strides since he switched to the shale less than two years ago. He achieved a famous double in July 2011 - winning both Handicap and Scratch Main Events on the same night at San Bernardino. That performance followed an equally remarkable achievement in March when he defeated eventual World Champion Greg Hancock to win the Handicap Main Event at the Gumball Rally at the same track!
Finally, 18 year old Brad Pappalardo is the nephew of World Champion Hancock. He won the National U-16 Championship in 2008 and the Handicap Main Event at Costa Mesa's 40th Anniversary Meeting in 2009. He also co-promotes Speedway at Perris Raceway with his mother Carrie Hancock and – despite his young age - is rapidly gaining recognition for his ultra-professional approach to racing. Further news on the US Future team will be announced when confirmed.

Bunyan in Seventh Heaven 2012 Rye House arrival Jason Bunyan demonstrated his clear ambitions for the new campaign, capturing his seventh New Zealand Championship by going through the card at Moore Park in Christchurch tonight (Saturday, February 18th).
Bunyan’s success followed another unbeaten performance to win the NZ Grand Prix last weekend at Oreti Park Speedway in Invercargil, and sets him up for his Wildcard spot in the FIM Grand Prix first round at Western Springs in Auckland next month. As proud father Mick said afterwards, “Having the New Zealand No.1 plate is so important to Jason. His next target is the Rye House No.1 jacket!”
Congratulations to Jason on a fantastic achievement.

Luke Bowen Bi...Paradise.JPG[/img] Photo: Luke Bowen's bike at Paradise Park last Sunday. Rockets on Show at Paradise Park The Silver Ski Rockets had a strong presence at Sunday’s (February 19th) Celebration of Speedway exhibition at nearby Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne. The Park – owned by former rider Pete Sampson – houses the National Speedway Museum, while the annual exhibition was specifically celebrating the 84th anniversary of the birth of the sport in this country at High Beech in Epping Forest on February 19th 1928. The Rockets were represented by Harlow Flyer Luke Bowen, team manager John Sampford, Andrew Silver and Lisa Eldridge. In addition to talking to visitors and handing out copies of the newly printed Rye House leaflet, Bowen and Sampford were interviewed on the mike by presenter Craig Saul, discussing their optimism and ambitions for the new campaign. The clear centre of attention, however, seemed to be Bowen’s radiant new 2012 bike – complete with its stylish state of the art rear mudguard (see photo). Former stars also present at the day’s Celebration included Hackney great Bengt Jansson, Bert Harkins, Colin Pratt, Karl Fiala (who rode under Pratt and Len Silver at Rye House until retiring after 1980’s League championship campaign) and, ever the gentleman, 1950 and 1953 World champion Freddie Williams. . THIRD Ex-Rye Star Named to Inter-League Challenge The night of Saturday March 31 – when the Silver Ski Rockets face Elite League Peterborough in a special challenge match - is turning out to be an increasingly memorable one for Rye House fans. As previously announced, newly crowned 7-times New Zealand Champion Jason Bunyan will be an absentee due to his selection to ride in the opening round of the FIM Grand Prix series, with the Rockets calling on former Hoddesdon star Tai Woffinden as a guest rider for the night. His tussles with fellow former Rocket Linus Sundstrom – who will be lining up at No.1 for the Panthers due to Kenneth Bjerre’s commitment to the GP – are already much anticipated. As indeed is the new name added to the cast list. With Peterborough’s Lasse Bjerre now also unavailable for the fixture, his place in the East of England Showground side will be taken by one of Rye's favourite sons, Eddie Kennett who jumped at the chance of appearing at his old stamping ground. So three of the greatest riders ever to wear the Rocket emblem will all be in action on March 31st…. making it a MUST for all speed fans.
