The last scheduled meeting for the track was to have involved a match race between Danny Lee and Jack Adams. Did it ever take place?

According to the "Homes of British Speedway" the address was Wraysbury Road. Stadium was long gone by the time I started work in Staines in 1999 I think.

Staines was a 440 yard track at a greyhound stadium on the Wraysbury Road. That sport started sometime in 1928. The march of time saw the stadium demolished in 1963 and it became part of the Staines bypass towards Egham.
Besides solo speedway, sidecar racing is said to have taken place at Staines in 1955. Its main use was always greyhounds, although stock car racing took place there from 1955 to 1963. One of the top local stock car drivers was former grass track and California-in-England rider Ted Pankhurst.

The Staines team were opposition to Norwich when the Firs Stadium was a grass track before Max Grosskreutz took control in 1937 and laid the pukka track which lasted till 1964.

Are there any names for the Staines team that raced against Norwich in the mid-1930s?

13 September 1931 was the date. On 13 July 1932 the sides met again at the Firs Stadium. I have a listing of the riders involved but cannot put my hand on it at present. A number of the riders were in the habit of riding under aliases at that time as Norwich had no Control Board Licence for the track. I will attempt to find my list in the near future and put the names on this board.

Your revelation does raise the interesting point - was there racing also at Staines before 1938 as given in our header? Thanks for your interest.

List is as follows - Jack Kirby (captain), Harry Fletcher, Joey Nelson, Bert Lynn, Jim Millward, George Wilkin, Carl Nickowitz, E W Hall, Don Dines. Norwich had - Arthur Reynolds (Fred Levis), Herb Peters, Bill Butler, Hugh Bentley, Jack Smythe (Jack Sharpe), C. Vincent, Wal Smith. Millward also rode for Wembley and Norwich in his time and had a garage in Cambridge. Also Nickowitz was rumoured to be Max Grosskreutz whilst Reynolds and Smythe regularly rode under these aliases on the Norwich track in the early 30's

More details of early 1930s results for Staines in away matches in East Anglia can be found on www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/docs/keithfarmanfiles/easternspeedway.pdfwhich were provided by the much respected late Keith Farman.
