Perhaps its all for the best then. A London Championship at present should only consist of Arena and Rye riders to make it as near realism as possible.

Perhaps its all for the best then. A London Championship at present should only consist of Arena and Rye riders to make it as near realism as possible. I agree that the event, if revived, should only feature riders from Lakeside and Rye House (on a proportionate ratio in regard to divisions). Trouble is that this year's proposed championship, after all that massive early season publicity, as pointed out by another message poster has just been forgotten. And that's not good enough.

Quite right John, I saw your note on the B S F and it definitely isnt a good example of how things should be done. Unfortunately this is how speedway is run today. Oh for the old days of Speedway every night of the week. Actually an event covering both tracks staging a meeting with the aggregate scores for each rider giving final positions would have not been too bad, better than nothing anyhow. If they could get 16 riders from the two teams (8 from each track?)

My view is that Lakeside are going to act as though they were never going to revive this great event - ie The London Riders Championship. Shame on them for not even announcing they had changed their mind about it.

Are Lakeside going to make another attempt to stage the London Riders Championship in 2010. Has anyone heard anything? Not seen it mentioned anywhere - still no explanation as to why it didn't take place after so much ballyhoo in 2009.

Any news of an attempt by Lakeside to stage the London Riders Championship for the 2010 season? I've not seen it mentioned in their track releases that appear on the site.

Well the much-heralded promise from Lakeside Hammers last season that after being unable to revive the championship for 2009 but would this season hasn't materialised. The club's put out a lot of guff on their many press releases on London speedways but not a dickey-bird about bringing back that great old individual event. Shame on them!

Take a look at the latest Lakeside Hammers press release in the Lakeside Hammers slot in the London Tracks from 1928 section. The LRC will take place in a strange form later this month. I don't like what they suggest about running it but at least the championship's name has been revived.

This off Lakeside Hammers website re London Riders Championship:
Kylmakorpi Wins Curtailed London Riders Championship
Meeting halted after 6 heats
London Riders Championship : Friday 15th October 2010
The October drizzle did it's best to end the season early but it dried up enough for part 2 of the season finale at Lakeside to get underway - the return of the fabled London Riders Championship. Set for a 12 heat qualifying, semi final and final format it saw each of the 12 riders donning a race jacket representing a London team of the past or present.
From heat 1 World Longtrack Champion Joonas Kylmakorpi made his intentions known with a lightning gate to win from hard charging Peter Ljung. Returning Hammers' asset Henning Bager was also out to show he could still master the white line with a solid victory over Ollie Allen and Ryan Fisher in heat 2 before Cameron Woodward beat Sam Masters and both USA team riders for victory in heat 3.
With the rain beginning to fall again, Peter Ljung made his claim for the title with a hard fought win over Bager in heat 4. Kylmakorpi remained undefeated with determined 1st turn in heat 5 to seal a win over Kauko Nieminen. Ryan Fisher then showed he was up for the title defeating Woodward and Robson, Robbo getting the better of Sam Masters after a wild 1st lap with a blanket covering all four.
It was shaping up nicely but the rain wouldn't stop and with the track getting ever wetter and a forecast that wasn't promising, the decision was made to call a halt to the meeting and hence the season.
Thanks to being the only unbeaten rider, Joonas Kylmakorpi was duely awarded the London Riders Championship title and trophy by Jon Cook.
To close the meeting Jon Cook interviewed Joonas Kylmakorpi, Stuart Robson, Peter Ljung and Kauko Nieminen with his final words looking forward to a more promising 2011.

I wonder: will there be a London Riders Championship in 2012?

Very unlikely. It's certainly not on the Rye House fixture list and Lakeside Hammers who, a couple of seasons ago made an il-fated attempt to revive it, also seem to have lost interest.

I wonder if, with the likelihood that Lakeside Hammers will revive their top league status for the 2018 season, if the London Riders Championship could be revived? What I visualise is a two-leg championship run in conjunction with Rye House. Does any other member have views on this suggestion?
