Peter Craven of Belle Vue in 1960 or 1961 was probably the last winner of the prestige Tom Farndon Memorial Trophy. Are there any details of other winners. I am told it was a high key event every season at the track and was a tribute to Farndon who died after a crash there in August 1935.

I thought Peter Craven won the Tom Farndon Trophy during the short "open licence" season at New Cross before they entered the League with Split Waterman as skipper

Your historical efforts are applauded by many people, myself among them. Keep up the good work. I love reading them because there's usually an excellent snippet of information to be learned.

Thanks for that small bit of comfort mate but I do tend to write things without looking it up first. That is no good if I am competing with the great Norbold and other like brains. Still I must keep trying to get things right

I have just added Bluey Wilkinson as the 1938 winner. There was no championship in 1945. This is the final and accurate list of winners.

The list of winners shows Howdy Byford, Malcolm Craven & Jeff Lloyd. They were not recognised as big individual meeting winners but victories of this magnitude does show just how good they could be on the night. The other victories all went to the more well known "stars" of their day

A few weeks after his death in 1935, New Cross held the first of the tribute meetings for Tom Fardon. It was won by the Belle Vue and England star Eric Langton. Here is an image of the event's programme in 1935. It was contributed by Mrs Betty Farndon.Attachments:
