"Unfortunately the decision has been made to postpone tonight’s meeting between the Vortex Lakeside Hammers and The Birmingham Brummies due to a waterlogged track and the forecast of further spells of heavy and light rain until start time. "The provisional re-staging date is Friday the 26th of April, when both teams will be at full strength."

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Monday 22nd April 2013 THE VORTEX HAMMERS IN RARE TUESDAY HOME ACTION The King’s Lynn Stars are the Vortex Hammers opponents tomorrow, 23rd April, in a rare Tuesday Elite League match when the two teams meet at 7.30pm at the Arena Essex Raceway. The Vortex Hammers move away from their traditional Friday night home action to stage this Tuesday event, which will be screened live by Sky Sports. The Stars have started the year well winning all three of their home matches and have picked up four points on their travels with a narrow three point defeat at Poole and a comprehensive ten point win at their local rivals, Peterborough, on Good Friday. Their tally of fourteen League points from five meetings currently places them in third place in the Sky Sports Elite League table behind Swindon and Wolverhampton. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook commented: "We are looking forward to this rare Tuesday evening meeting at the Raceway in front of the Sky Sports cameras and having had our last match, against Birmingham, fall foul of the weather the team need to get back out there on the track and make up for lost time. King's Lynn have put together a strong looking team this year and are currently in third place in the table on 14 points and we need to take all three available League points against them to start our push back up the table.” The Vortex Hammers are expected to go into this meeting minus their captain, Davey Watt, who is recovering from a broken scaphoid sustained in the home match against Swindon on 5th April. His rides can be covered by using the ‘Rider Replacement’ facility, which will enable any of the remaining six riders to take an additional ride. King’s Lynn will be led by their Danish Grand Prix rider, Niels Kristian Iversen, who is currently in tenth place in the series after just two rounds having scored nine points in last Saturday’s round in Bydgoszcz, Poland, which secured him a place in one of the Semi Finals. He is joined in the Stars top five by two fellow Danes in Mads Korneliussen, who is their captain, and Nicolai Klindt, who joined the Norfolk club on loan from Wolverhampton over the past winter. Australian Rory Schlein is also a newcomer to the Stars side this season having joined them from belle Vue where he rode in 2011 and 2012. Completing their top five they have named British rider Simon Stead, who spent the past four seasons with Swindon and who was a member of the League winning side last year. However, he dislocated a shoulder whilst riding for his Premier League club, Sheffield in their away match at Workington last Saturday and is doubtful for Tuesday’s match. The Stars will use the ‘Rider replacement’ facility if he is not fit to ride and that will allow any of the Stars riders with the exception of Niels Kristian Iversen and Mads Korneliussen to take an additional ride. At reserve they have brought in Swedish rider, Sebastian Alden, who was a member of the Swindon squad last season whilst doubling up in the Premier League for Berwick along with Australian Kozza Smith, who missed last season due to injury. The admission prices are: - £17 for adults, £14 for Senior Citizens, Students and Disabled, £12 for Unemployed and 17 and 18 year olds, £3 for Children aged six to sixteen inclusive and children under the age of six admitted free of charge provided they are accompanied by a paying adult. Proof of age or status may be requested. All tickets may be purchased on the night but, alternatively, they are also available in advance online via the Club’s website at www.lakesidehammers.coThe action gets underway at the Arena Essex Raceway on Tuesday, 23rd April, at the slightly earlier time of 7.30pm with the Grand Parade of riders scheduled for 7.20pm .

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Wednesday 24th April 2013 DELIGHT FOR THE VORTEX HAMMERS Tuesday provided a day of delight for the Lakeside Vortex Hammers, who sped to a home victory over the highly fancied King’s Lynn Stars live on Sky Sports and then received the very welcome news that Captain Davey Watt will return to action in time for the Club’s busy May programme. The win over the Stars surprised many pundits, who predicted an away win, but saw all six Vortex Hammers riders in great form led by masterful performances from Peter Karlsson and Piotr Swiderski, whilst late signing Richard Lawson showed in his clashes with the rider he replaced, Richie Worrall, that he was a shrewd signing by the Essex based Club. Worrall, whose signing by King’s Lynn in the build up to the meeting, in the eyes of many, should have sealed victory for the Stars. Meanwhile, the Vortex Hammers captain Davey Watt will remain in plaster for another week before travelling to Poland to make his return ahead of the Club’s visit to Coventry on 6th May meaning he will only have missed two meetings for the Club, due to the lack of fixtures caused both by postponements and the fortnightly running of the Grand Prix series. In addition to Tuesday’s match against the Stars he also misses Wednesday’s away match at Birmingham. Further good news for the Vortex Hammers fans is that the home meeting with Birmingham will now be run on Friday 17th May giving the Club three consecutive Friday home meetings through May from the 10th to 24th. The 10th May will see the Peterborough Panthers visit the Arena Essex Raceway and the Coventry Bees will be in town on 24th May. Tuesday’s match against the Stars saw the ‘Rider Replacement’ facility for the injured Vortex Hammers captain Davey Watt work for the Vortex Hammers as it yielded nine points plus two bonus points from his four programmed rides. No.1, Peter Karlsson, was unbeaten in his opening four rides but finished at the back in heat 13 to finish the evening on an impressive tally of 12 points but the leading scorer was Piotr Swiderski who scored 13 points plus a bonus point from his six rides. These two were well supported by the remaining four Vortex Hammers riders with Lewis Bridger on 10 points, Kim Nilsson on seven plus three bonus points, Robert Mear on six points and Richard Lawson on five points plus two bonus points. The King’s Lynn Stars were effectively a four man team with Sebastian Alden failing to score and Nicolai Klindt managing just one point. They used the ‘Rider Replacement’ facility for the injured Simon Stead but his four programmed rides only resulted in two points being scored. Their captain Mads Korneliussen headed their scorers with 12 points whilst their Grand Prix rider Niels Kristian Iversen scored nine points. Their remaining points came from Rory Schlein with nine points plus two bonus points and former Hammer Richie Worrall with eight points and one bonus point from his full compliment of seven rides. The final result of 53-39 in favour of the Vortex Hammers was a fair indication as to the dominance of the home team and the vital three Sky Sports Elite League points gained from this victory has moved the Vortex Hammers up to sixth place in the League table with matches in hand over several of the teams above them.

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Thursday 9th May 2013 THE VORTEX HAMMERS SEASON COMES ALIVE The Vortex Lakeside Hammers kick started their season with a first ever away win at Poole on Wednesday evening and now all roads lead to the Arena Essex Raceway this Friday, 10th May, at 8pm as the team aims to continue their climb up the League table when they face the Peterborough Panthers. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook stated after Wednesday’s win at Poole: "We told the lads prior to our match at Poole that we needed a positive reaction after being dire on Monday at Coventry and we got it. The teams for this Friday’s match are (in alphabetical order):- Vortex Lakeside Hammers: Lewis Bridger (Great Britain ), Peter Karlsson (Sweden), Richard Lawson (Great Britain ), Robert Mear (Great Britain), Kim Nilsson (Sweden ), Piotr Swiderski (Poland) and Davey Watt (Australia ). THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Wednesday 15th May 2013 PRAISE FOR MEAR AHEAD OF TOUGH CLASH The Vortex Lakeside Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook expects this Friday’s clash with the Birmingham Brummies to be amongst the toughest his team will face at the Arena Essex Raceway this year as his team’s season starts to come together. Cancelled fixtures have seen the Vortex Hammers get off to a slow start to their League campaign but a brace of wins last week, at Poole on Wednesday and home against Peterborough on Friday, have seen the team climb up to fifth place in the Sky Sports Elite League table, just one spot away from the Play Offs positions. Cook commented following these two victories: "We are getting back on track now and this coming Friday (17th May) against the Brummies represents another tough test after which we can assess whether the team will need reinforcements to mount a better challenge. Our early season performances led us to consider changes but the team have responded well to that after a heart to heart at Poole last Wednesday. I have to single out Rob Mear for particular praise as he really was on the floor when we spoke Thursday having been well off the pace all week. His performance Friday was a pure match winner’s and to be able to turn that around within 48 hours showed real dedication. We will need more rides like that on Friday as the Birmingham line up is stuffed full of riders that go well at our Raceway." This Friday’s action will get underway at the Arena Essex Raceway, the home of the Vortex Lakeside Hammers, at 8pm with the Grand Parade of riders scheduled for 7.45pm .

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Thursday 16th May 2013 THE HAMMERS FACE THE BRUMMIES ON FRIDAY Following on from the six Sky Sports Elite League points gained from their two away and one home match last week the Vortex Hammers next meeting will be a vital one for the Essex based Club as they face the Birmingham Brummies at the Arena Essex Raceway this Friday, 17th May. Currently the Brummies occupy fourth place in the Elite League table with the Vortex Hammers fifth and come the end of the season it will be the top four clubs that will go forward into the Pay Offs for the Sky Sports Elite League title. Therefore, it can clearly be seen that Friday’s home match against Birmingham is an important one for both clubs. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook is fully aware of the significance of this fixture and commented: "This is our boys chance to show we are up to the standard needed to be contenders and following Poole’s win at King’s Lynn last night (Wednesday) we have a potentially very open season ahead. Birmingham, along with Swindon, look to be the class of the field to me and I think that this meeting could easily see the result not decided until the last few heats.” The Vortex Hammers go into Friday’s important meeting at full strength with the same team that gained the win at Poole and then saw off the challenge of Peterborough last Friday at the Arena Essex Raceway. The Birmingham Brummies include four British riders in their team, all of whom competed in the British Final, which was held at Wolverhampton earlier this week. They had varying success in that National Championship Final with their No.1, and former Cardiff Grand Prix winner, Chris Harris, scoring 13 points in the qualification heats, which put him straight into the Final, where he eventually finished in third place behind the top qualifier Tai Woffinden and runner up Scott Nicholls. The Brummies captain, Daniel King (a former Hammers rider), made the Semi Final having scored 10 points in his five qualification heats but finished in last place in that Semi and, therefore, failed to get through to the Final. Josh Auty failed to make the semi Final but scored a creditable eight points whereas Ben Barker had a difficult meeting failing to score from his first three rides, which included an exclusion, but did manage two second places in his remaining two rides to finish on four points. The remaining three members of the Birmingham team are Australian Jason Doyle, the Argentinean born Italian Nicolas Covatti and their in form reserve Martin Smolinski from Germany . The admission prices for Friday’s meeting are: - £17 for adults, £14 for Senior Citizens, Students and Disabled, £12 for Unemployed and 17 and 18 year olds, £3 for Children aged six to sixteen inclusive and children under the age of six admitted free of charge provided they are accompanied by a paying adult. Proof of age or status may be requested. Parking is free in the grounds of the Raceway. All tickets may be purchased on the night but, alternatively, they are also available in advance online via the Club’s website at www.lakesidehammers.coThe Arena Essex Raceway is situated adjacent to junctions 30/31 of the M25 just north of the Dartford River Crossing and is off the A1306 east of the motorway close to the Lakeside Shopping Complex. The action against the Birmingham Brummies gets underway at the Arena Essex Raceway on Friday, 17th May, at 8pm with the Grand Parade of riders scheduled for 7.45pm.

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Monday 20th May 2013 MEAR MISSES BELLE VUE The Vortex Lakeside Hammers reserve Robert Mear misses tonight’s (Monday 20th May’s) trip to Belle Vue and is doubtful for the visit to Poole on Wednesday (22nd May) having crashed his Moto-X bike yesterday. Keen all round motorcyclist Mear is suffering from mild concussion. The fall came on the same day that the Lakeside Hammers had agreed a loan deal to enable him to gain further racing in the Premier League with the club concerned making their own announcement in due course. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook stated this morning: “Rob (Robert Mear) sounds rather groggy today and not in a fit state to drive up to Manchester but we are both delighted that he has secured some much needed further Speedway meetings and, hopefully, we should have him back Wednesday.” Josh Grajczonek, who rides for Somerset in the Premier League, replaces Rob tonight at Belle Vue and again on Wednesday at Poole should Mear not return.

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS UPDATE Monday 20th May 2013
MEAR TO JOIN THE ROCKETS IN LOAN DEAL
Following our earlier Press Release today we can now confirm that the Premier League club that Robert Mear will be joining on a loan deal is Rye House.
The Rye House Rockets have now officially announced that they have agreed a temporary loan deal with the Vortex Lakeside Hammers for Robert Mear to return to their club as an injury replacement for their broken leg victim Jason Garrity. Mear is currently recovering from a motocross accident incurred yesterday but is scheduled to make his Rye House debut in their Sunday’s home League Cup fixture against Plymouth.
Rye House Team Manager John Sampford commented on Mear's return to the Rockets: “Robert is a rider who can continue to score in the same vein as Jason (Garrity) to keep us up there challenging for silverware. It is good to have a local rider on board who knows the track and can now bring Elite League experience with him in his second spell with the club”.

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Wednesday 22nd May 2013 ULAMEK IS JOINED BY WONDER KID ELLIS Excitement is the name of the game as the Vortex Hammers have unveiled 17 year old whiz kid Adam Ellis as a surprise addition to the side alongside fellow new signing Seb Ulamek with both riders first appearances brought forward to this Friday’s home clash against Coventry. Fans were told of Ulamek's signing last week and with the rider having a gap in his racing calendar to bring equipment over this week he will now come into the line up ahead of schedule. Young Ellis has been champing at the bit to add to his lower league experience with that of Elite League racing and the Club will work with him over the initial meetings to make sure the time is right for him to step up and if it proves too early they will use the new June averages to look at other options. Making way for the two new additions will be Robert Mear, who is joining Rye House, and, initially, Kim Nilsson, although the rider and Club have agreed that no final decision on Kim's future will be made until the middle of June as, potentially, he can be reintroduced into the line up in time for the visit of Wolverhampton on Friday 21st June, having missed only two meetings should the Club decide he is a better option than other team members. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook explained: "Seb (Ulamek) is very keen to get started, as are we, and as he was travelling in this week anyway it seemed silly not to get him started straight away. Having looked at our options we really felt that the chance for our fans to see Adam (Ellis) in action was too good to miss. Whether it proves a brief cameo or for the rest of the season will depend on how he handles the step up but he is mad keen to give it a go and we are more than happy to fast track him. Significantly both Davey (Watt) and PK (Peter Karlsson) encouraged us to do this and they will give him every assistance." Jon Cook was also keen to stress that both Kim & Robert still have a big future at the Club and one, or both, may well still feature this year. Cook continued: "I spoke with Robert (Mear) on Saturday when Rye House came on to us with a firm place and we think this is a timely move for him. He has had three meetings failing to beat an opponent sandwiched between a 10 paid 11 point score so clearly consistency is needed and being on his bike more can only help that. As far as Kim (Nilsson) is concerned the break in fixtures due to Grand Prix weeks means we can get the best of both worlds in almost operating a squad system so, as the lower averaging of the top five riders, he will miss the next two meetings while we make up our minds on which is the best top five to take forward. We are mindful of the fact that when Kim shines away we tend to win and we need to counter that with the greater consistency of other of his team mates at home. It’s a win, win situation for the Club though as it should keep everyone on their toes and we will make our final decision ahead of our big clash against Wolverhampton on 21st June. I have to say both riders have been magnificent in the way they have taken the news and can only reiterate that they, along with Adam (Ellis), are the long term future of this Club."

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Friday 24th May 2013 TONIGHT’S MEETING IS OFF – HAMMERS V COVENTRY After overnight rain and with a forecast for continued wet weather all day and temperatures in low single figures the Vortex Hammers meeting with Coventry tonight has been cancelled. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook explained: "With two Hammers riders and three Bees riders sitting in departure lounges ready to fly we have brought forward the decision to call the meeting off to earlier than we normally would but with every weather forecast giving us no hope that decision is made for us." "We will now have to wait for a fortnight to see the new look Vortex Hammers in action and hope that we will at last do that in weather more befitting a summer Sport, after all it will only be June by then! It's hugely disappointing given the excitement around the Raceway following our run of four wins but at least we head into another Grand Prix week break in excellent shape, team wise, and with Birmingham's win last night at Swindon the path to the Play Offs is opening up nicely, promising an exciting summer ahead."

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Thursday 30th May 2013 HAMMERS SKY SWITCH The Vortex Hammers will be back in action four days earlier than expected after last week’s rained off meeting against the Coventry Bees was quickly rearranged for this coming Monday, 3rd June, to feature as the night’s live Sky meeting. With the Hammers on a four match unbeaten run and sitting on the edge of the Play Offs and Coventry having come into form with a Bank Holiday double win over Peterborough the meeting promises to be crucial to both clubs title ambitions. Coventry will be led by former Hammer and Grand Prix star Krzysztof Kasprzak whilst the Vortex Hammers will give a debut to Seb Ulamek and include Robert Mear at reserve following the publication of the June averages, although the Club’s teenage star Adam Ellis will make his first appearance of the season on Friday, 7th June, in the home match against the Poole Pirates. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook commented this morning: "We are delighted to stage this event at short notice as we were originally looking at period of fine weather but no action at a time when the boys are full of confidence and looking to keep our run continuing. Hopefully as many fans as possible can make it to the Raceway for what now promises to be an action packed week of racing with the new look Poole team to follow on Friday."

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Friday 31st May 2013 HAMMERS FANS OFFER The Vortex Lakeside Hammers are slashing prices to allow fans to be able to watch both this coming week’s exciting meetings at the Arena Essex Raceway as the Coventry Bees visit on Monday, 3rd June, and the Poole Pirates are the opponents on Friday, 7th June. Fans attending Monday’s meeting, when normal adult and concessions prices apply, will pay just £10 to watch the Vortex Hammers take on the Pirates on Friday on production of their admission ticket from the Coventrymeeting. Coventryfans attending Monday’s meeting to support the Bees can do so for just £10 on production of a copy of one of this year’s Bees home meeting programmes. The programme will not be retained by the Club. Entrance for this offer will be at the main double gates at the top of the approach road but please note that payment cannot be accepted by use of credit/debit cards at this gate. Children's admission (aged 6 to 16 inclusive) for both of next week’s meetings has been reduced to £1 to ease the strain on family finances. Jon Cook, the Hammers Co Promoter, stated: "We hope this offer will reward our regular hardcore of supporters who have turned out in, frankly, rubbish weather conditions so far this season to support us and will also encourage more fans to take in Monday's meeting as well as our normal Friday race night. Whilst we don't expect a great many Bees fans to attend, given the short notice, we feel those that do also need rewarding for supporting their team in person. Both meetings are going to be close affairs and it's great to be back promoting Speedway sooner than we had expected".
