Is it correct that in recent years former West Ham 1950s rider Jim Chalkley worked as an acting extra in the TV programmes 'EastEnders' and 'The Bill'.

I do not know if that is correct or not. There was a Jim Chalkley who rode for Rye House in the Southern Area League and I think this was the same person who was at West Ham Speedway. I also think I saw the name as a poster on one of the forums so we may get some reply from Jim if it is in fact the same Jim who was a Hammer & a Rooster

Bluey Scott told me that jim was into show business and was working as a comedian. Bluey knew Jim as he rode in Rockhampton Queensland around 1968-69 when Bluey was promoting there.

Jim Chalkley now lives in Fuengirola, Spain. He did appear as an extra in both 'The Bill" and "EastEnders.' In recent years, he has also turned singer and appeared in several musicals at The Salon Varieties Theatre in Fuengirola. Also, he still appears as an entertainer-singer at various clubs and bars in that area. His last British track was Wolverhampton (Provincial League) in 1960 but he rode in some open meetings at Eastbourne after that. Chalkley's career as a speedway rider ended when he broke a leg at an Australian track in about 1968.

Thanks for the update on Jim Chalkley, he was one of the Southern Area team at Rye House when they rode in that competition

Unfortunately both Brian (above) and Jim Chalkley have passed away. Jim about five and Brian about three years ago.
This has probably been documented elsewhere but I thought it would finish this tread on Jim.
