A MESSAGE FROM NICK TAYLOR::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::2010 will be the fifth seasons since the sound of speedway bikes were last heard at the Dons spiritual home of Wimbledon Stadium. The Supporters Club have tried to keep the name alive by sending representative teams to tracks around the country, culminating in our victory over Oxford at Reading in 2008 in front of one of Smallmeads biggest crowds of that season! We have now decided to take the stance of petitioning the London Borough of Merton to help us either return to Plough Lane or help us find another suitable site within the area. Please can you take a minute to sign our petition, and thank you for your time. CLICK HERE FOR PETITION www.gopetition.com/petitions/bring-back-wimbledon-speedway.html

Wimbledon Speedway Supporters Club are proud to announce its support for the ‘Two Fat Submariners’. The ‘Two Fat Submariners’ are Barry Bishop and Steve Mills, and they are giving a year to charity by cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats in aid of Help for Heroes, competing in the Wroclaw Marathon in aid of the NSPCC and also swimming the Channel in aid of the Make a Wish Foundation. “The Wimbledon Supporters Club will be carrying the Two Fat Submariners logo on our website, along with a link to their website (www.twofatsubmariners.com) to highlight our support for a worthy campaign by two guys who have undertaken to complete three gruelling events in the space of a year” announced WSSC Chairman, Nick Taylor. “We will be seeking permission from the BSPA to ride again in the near future, so as part of our support we have agreed to sport the Two Fat Submariners logo on our race jackets.” “We have invited both Barry and Steve to the Wimbledon Speedway Reunion on March 13th, and will give them the opportunity to speak about their plans during the evening” Barry Bishop, one of the Two Fat Submariners, said, “The Dons is a team name integrated with speedway history since 1929 and I am very proud that the supporters club have decided to get involved with the Two Fat Submariners. Of course both Chris Schramm and Terry Day are two of our support riders that have ridden for Wimbledon, and I have had a few skids with ‘Buzz’ Burrows over the years, who I know is a current favourite.” “Steve and I really appreciate the clubs support and I know that with their help we will raise our end total significantly and we look forward to meeting with them soon and more importantly attending a meeting where the Dons are competing... maybe even against a Two Fat Submariners select .” You can find out more at www.twofatsubmariners.com for sponsorship, pledges and general information.

FROM WIMBLEDON GUARDIAN::
Wimbledon Speedway gears up for reunion 11:56am Tuesday 23rd February 2010
By Simon Fitzjohn »
The legends of Wimbledon speedway, past and almost-present, will be celebrated when the club hosts its first ever riders reunion this month.
The event, planned to give fans the chance to mingle with their heroes, will see Dons bikers from as far back as the 1940s attend.
And Supporters Club boss Nick Taylor admits the event has been a mammoth undertaking.
He said: “It has been a lot of hard work to be honest.
“The actual reunion was suggested to me by one of our old riders, Terry Mussett (1986-88), who thought it would be a good idea.
“I know most of the recent riders but going back through the decades proved a lot more difficult.
“Thankfully the World Speedway Riders Association (WSRA) helped me out and we have got people attending from every decade since the war.
“It will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone who enjoyed Wimbledon Speedway to come and share memories.”
The event, which will also see a buffet and an auction of Wimbledon speedway memorabilia, will hopefully be the first of many such events as the Dons look to maintain their profile.
And with legendary characters like Barry Briggs attending, it is sure to be a night not to be missed for speed freaks.
Taylor added: “Barry coming is really the icing on the cake and there are about 20 riders coming in total.
“I will also be trying to get more signatures for our petition to try and get speedway returned to Wimbledon.
“We plan to present the petition to Merton Council in a bid to get them to help us to get back into the Greyhound Stadium, or provide a new site for us.
“So hopefully fans will attend in numbers and we can really get the ball rolling.”
The event will be held at The Quays, Mytchett near Camberley on March 13. Tickets are £10 and should be bought in advance by contacting WSSC, 37 Dukes Close, Ashford, Middlesex, TW15 1BQ

On the eve of the 2010 season, over 100 former riders, officials and supporters of the Wimbledon Dons Speedway Club attended the ‘First Great Reunion Bash’ at The Quays in Mytchett, Surrey, on Saturday, March 13. The event, which was organised by the Wimbledon Supporters Club, saw the likes of Ernie Baker, Tony Clarke, Terry Mussett, Mark ‘Buzz’ Burrows and former World Champion, Barry Briggs celebrate the clubs bygone years. “The event was a great success” stated Supporters Club chairman, Nick Taylor. “To have the likes of Barry Briggs attending a function like this says a lot for the friendships created at this club down the years”. Hosting the evening was former Plough Lane presenter, Mike Bennett, and he took time out of his busy schedule to take to the PA once more, interviewing a number of the attending riders. Plans are already in motion for the second staging of the reunion early next year, and it seems that this may now become a regular event, enabling all connected with the Dons to keep in touch during the search for a new home.
