It's a sad fact of speedway life that while the Dons were booted out at the end of the 2005 that stock cars are now in their 48th consecutive season at Wimbledon Stadium. When the midget cars were there in 1973 as shown in the pictures both stock car and speedway flourished at Plough Lane. I saw some midgets at Wimbledon after a speedway match in I think May 1982. I can't say they really impressed me. Was any other site member at Plough Lane that night. It was a so-called London Championship and Pete Smith from Epsom emerged as winner if my memory serves me correctly. For me, bikes are much more spectacular and thrilling to watch.
