I'm in shock. Deon was such a nice, friendly guy with time and a warm smile for everybody. He was a popular favourite at Corobrik in the '90s and I'm sure more recently at Walkerville.
The fact that he did very well on occasion against the visiting international stars enhanced his popularity as well as his status as one of South Africa's greatest riders even if he did ride in UK as a Zimbabwean. I don't know if you will put this up, or whether they read your forum, but I would like to extend my thoughts and condolences to Deon's widow, his father Chris and uncle Peter and their families as well as to his cousin, former SA champion and captain Warren Meier and his parents and family. Regards, Kenneth MacLeod
