Which team(s) rode at this site, and when?

Is this the track 1950s vintage where Vic White, Jimmy Heard, Vern Brown and Dave Still raced at?

I tend to think that you may be correct about the Mare Street site in Hackney. Why not get in touch with Vic White at the World Speedway Riders Association. He's a very helpful guy.

I really look forward to what Vic White has to say and it will be interesting to see what names he comes up with in regard to cycle speedway riders from that venue who went on to speedway-proper. Vic must have been one of them?

Have sent an email to Vic White and will post his reply. Any news as yet from Vic White, who was himself a very good cycle speedway rider from what I remember.

Reply received today from Vic White ....
Hello Robin Gosh ! I can't remember that far back, I don't think that there was ever a track on Mare St, the nearest ones would be Hackney Comets (just off Mare Street) and further down towards Shoreditch was my track at Andrews Road alongside the canal--the Warwick Lions. I may not be able to remember where the tracks were but I can remember the Pie & Mash shops!!!! Good luck Vic (The Legend)

Could you be getting confused with Well Street, Hackney? There was a track on the Common till the mid 80s but it has now been grassed-over and no trace remains. By the time I discovered it (mid 70s) I don't think there any teams using it. I also discovered a track very near to Hackney Speedway, behind a pub, near to where the Eastway cycle circuit is/was by the River Lea. Any ideas?

I was told about the track near Mare Street by a former rider. Don't think it was the same as the one at Well Street, which was built by the LCC in about 1952.
The track behind the pub was the home of Whipps Cross Comets until they disbanded. I t was later used by Newham Hammers.
