![]() Mars Silver H..et July 1952[/img] Not a team photo but a great group shot of the finalists at The Mars Silver Helmet raced at the old Bermondsey Lions near near New Cross Stadium on July 13 1952. Three of the group, Tommy Sweetman, Joe (aka Colin) Gooddy and Dave Still went on to make speedway grade in the late 1950s onwards. Dennis Bottazi also had trials with Harringay but failed to make progress. The photo shows back: Tommy Sweetman, Alf Padgeth, Ernie Lamacq, Joe (Colin) Gooddy, Dennis Bottazzi, Terry Eldridge, Gus Garratt, Dave Turner, Dennis England, Ray Braddon, Gerry Witsey. the Bermondsey team were called the Greyhounds not the Lions, the track was in Larnaca Road , Bermondsey. The track in Verney Road was the home of Verney Lions, who also raced in the same league
