[ Photos show: Aidan Collins leading Dons' Phil Ambrose Chris Geer The scene on opening night May 2 2002. This followed a torrential rainstorm midway through the meeting that nearly led to the revival meeting being abandoned. In th end, racing continued but on a track heavily waterlogged and in poor racing condition.

[ quote source="/post/4238/thread" timestamp="1372418385" author="Administrator"] Peter Collyer action Phil Ambrose, portrait Phil Ambrose, action
The grass track and speedway career of Phil Ambrose ended when he broke a leg in a 2002 grass track meeting at Wainfleet. He died in his sleep aged 27 years in 2007. Besides Wimbledon I think he also had spells on speedway at several tracks including Arena Essex and Rye House.

In the 2002 Wimbledon revival pix both Graeme Gordon and Glenn Phillips are shown. They seem to have had very brief stays in Dons colours - apart from the revival opener at Plough Lane against Belle Vue Colts did they ride in any more matches for the Dons?

The group shot - CL Wimbledon's first posed group is, from left, Jon Stevens, Glen Phillips (?), Chris Hunt, not known, Cecil Forbes. The action shot taken in 2003 - is known to be Martin Williams and should be compared as possibly being the rider 'not' known heading this selection.Attachments:
