WE HAVE LIFT-OFF! The BMR Rockets made the perfect start to their main Premier League programme with a comfortable 53-39 win over Ipswich in their East Anglian clash in Hoddesdon on Saturday night. The Rockets were ahead from the moment that Edward Kennett and Kasper Lykke finished either side of Danny King for a 4-2 in Heat 1, and they were never really troubled once they had established a 20-10 advantage at Heat 5. Kennett went on to go through the card for a four ride maximum, and has now been headed just once in fourteen races around the circuit. Former Witches Leigh Lanham (10+1) and Cameron Heeps (9+1) also reached double figures, the pair combining for a spectacular Heat 5 in which Lanham held off a persistent King for the victory and Heeps caught James Sarjeant for third spot right on the line, as did reserve Ben Morley who quietly got about the business of racking up points in a 7+3 haul. Stuart Robson was just one adrift, with two wins in a 9 point tally. Completing the scoring, Kasper Lykke added 5, while fellow Dane Peter Karger was once again in the wars, hitting the third bend air fence at some speed when desperately trying to pass King for the lead in Heat 11. He was fortunately able to make his own way back to the pits following a few minutes of treatment and recuperation. Overall, the result provided the opportunity for the Rockets to make another positive statement about their intentions in 2016 – and that was also the case for Cameron Heeps, who had spent four years as a Witch before making the transition to Hertfordshire during the winter. As he said afterwards, “It was always going to be a tough match, and especially for me. I felt like I put a little bit of extra pressure on myself. I think I needed that change of place to push on, though. I had a chat with (Ipswich co-promoter) Chris Louis and said that I thought I needed a break, and should try something else because I felt a bit stale, and he agreed with me. “I’ve enjoyed myself a lot already this year. It’s important to know that there are good people around, and I’m enjoying my move. It’s a different atmosphere, the boys are good around me, and we’re winning – which is even better. “I’ve gelled with the team 100% already. We chat every day as a side on Facebook, and something like that with a bit of banter really helps me to enjoy my Speedway. From here, the Rockets’ focus will start to build towards two big matches next weekend. They head to the re-born Plymouth Devils next Friday for their final League Cup group fixture and with the aim of keeping their dreams in that competition alive, while Peterborough provide the League opposition in Hoddesdon the following evening. Heeps is looking forward to both: “We’re going to go down there to Plymouth and aim for a big win, and hopefully do the same again next Saturday. And then, who knows what can happen?!” Rye House scorers: Edward Kennett 12 (4 rides, maximum), Leigh Lanham 10+1 (5), Cameron Heeps 9+1 (5), Stuart Robson 9 (4), Ben Morley 7+3 (4), Kasper Lykke 5 (4), Peter Karger 1 (4).
Ipswich scorers: Nico Covatti 15 (5 rides, inc 4 as a TR), Danny King 8+1 (5), Morten Risager 5 (4), James Sarjeant 4+1 (4), Lewis Kerr 3+1 (4), Paco Castagna 3 (4), Darryl Ritchings 1+1 (4). Match Points: Rye House 3 Ipswich 0 As part of Saturday night’s entertainment, Rye House supporters were treated to a ten lap/eleven rider demonstration race as a taster for the Maxxis 2016 UK National Flat Track Championship round that takes place at the stadium tomorrow (Sunday) morning. The event is set to feature as many as 135 riders, with the bikes out on track from 11am and admission free.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! A 526 mile round-trip was all worthwhile for the BMR Rockets, whose League Cup dreams remain very much alive after achieving their first away win of the campaign in an emphatic 51-41 success at Plymouth on Friday night. The Rockets brought a maximum 4 match points home from Devon to wrap up their group fixtures on 10 points. That’s 6 points clear of Somerset, who will need to beat the Devils home and away in their remaining fixtures to have the chance of sneaking into the competition’s semi-finals. It proved another flawless night for Rye House captain Edward Kennett, who racked up his third straight maximum for the side. The skipper’s five race wins were added to by Stuart Robson, Leigh Lanham and Ben Morley, who bagged a couple of 3 pointers each. Elsewhere, Cameron Heeps not far off double figures with 7+2, while Kasper Lykke and Peter Karger did their bit with key points at key times. With Kennett taking Heat 1, the Rockets were never behind - and also in front from the moment that Ben Morley and Peter Karger maxed out in the second race. Another 5-1, this time from Leigh Lanham and Cameron Heeps against Charlie Gjedde in Heat 10, doubled their advantage to 8 points, while Kennett’s third victory of the evening, with Kasper Lykke tucking in behind Kyle Newman for third spot, took the score up to 38-28. Jack Holder’s 6 point Tactical ride in Heat 12 – and a bizarre 6-2 result, after both Peter Karger and Stefan Nielsen had been excluded - gave the Devils brief hope at 40-34, but Kennett and Stuart Robson slammed the door firmly shut again with a 5-1 over Gjedde and Newman in the very next race. Lanham won the penultimate heat, with Morley pressuring Todd Kurtz throughout for third place, while Kennett set the seal on another fine personal team performance by wrapping up the finale. Rye House team manager Peter Schroeck was euphoric afterwards. “It was another awesome performance from the boys again tonight. We had that feeling during the (pre-match) track walk that we could get this sort of result tonight. I told them then that the Plymouth track was no different to our own, and to get stuck into it. “That’s exactly what they did, hitting the opposition from right off the start and keeping it going. Everybody from one to seven rode his heart out, and you can’t ask for more. Edward (Kennett) was unbelievable, but they were all heroes. “We’ve got such a good feeling within this club. Consistency is the key in this league, and it’s what this team is about. “It’s a long, long way to come for tonight, so we put everything into it when we got here. To get the result we did makes the drive home a sweet one.” The victory provides the perfect build-up for tomorrow night’s East Anglian derby at Hoddesdon against highly rated Peterborough, who will bring with them Premier League Riders’ Champion Ulrich Ostergaard and 2015 Rockets hot-shot Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen. Schroeck isn’t fazed by the opposition. “We’re 100% ready. The boys don’t fear anybody. They believe in themselves and each other. It’s the perfect attitude within the club.” Rye House scorers: Edward Kennett 15, Stuart Robson 10+1, Leigh Lanham 9+1, Cameron Heeps 7+2, Ben Morley 6, Peter Karger 2+1, Kasper Lykke 2 Plymouth scorers: Jack Holder 14, Kyle Newman 8+2, Charlie Gjedde 5+1, Sam Simota 5, Todd Kurtz 4+2, Stefan Nielsen 3, Ellis Perks 2 Match Points: Plymouth 0 Rye House 4

ROCKETS READY TO REBOUND! The BMR Rockets are out to prove they are fired up once again as they aim to bounce back from their recent home reverse against Peterborough with positive results from the two Premier League fixtures they have lined up over the next five days. Tomorrow night sees the Rockets travel up to Sheffield for their first away match in their main Premier League programme. Visits over the years to the big and pacey Steel City circuit have not always proven happy occasions, although the Rockets enjoyed not one but two victories there in 2013. Team Manager Peter Schroeck is determined to make the positive attitude prevalent within his squad count once again at Owlerton in 2016. “The boys are really up for it. We’ll be going there with an experienced side – Eddie (Kennett), Robbo (Stuart Robson) and Leigh (Lanham) have all ridden there over the years, and the track will hold no surprises for them – and Cam (Cameron Heeps) enjoys his visits there too. “So we’ve got the foundations of a solid display. We’re more than capable of it. It’s just a case of going up there and putting on our best performance, and hopefully we will come away with the reward.” BMR Rockets: Cameron Heeps, Peter Karger, Edward Kennett (captain), Leigh Lanham, Kasper Lykke, Ben Morley, Stuart Robson Sheffield Tigers: Josh Bates, Dimitri Berge, Jason Garrity, Nathan Greaves, Richard Hall, Kyle Howarth, Simon Stead Bank Holiday Monday, meanwhile, brings a bumper edition of racing to Hoddesdon, with no less than thirty heats scheduled between 2pm and close of play in double header action. The afternoon’s main event will see the Rockets engaged in a pitched Premier League battle with highly touted Workington, who field a line-up that includes American ace Ricky Wells, former Coventry star Kenneth Hansen, Claus Vissing - and former Rye House favourite "Furness Flyer" Adam Roynon. Says Schroeck, “It should be a real humdinger. It was a tough one here last time against Peterborough, but as I’ve said before this is such an even league and no one is guaranteed a win. My job is to help keep the boys fired up and feeling good about themselves. If they put in the same effort that they did against the Panthers then they can definitely get the right result.” The BMR Raiders, meanwhile, will be targeting their first victory of the season as they tackle a Stoke team that is also yet to taste success - meaning that something HAS to give on Monday. The Raiders will be buoyed by their powerful top-end of Rob Branford, Ben Morley and Luke Priest, while at the other end of the spectrum Macauley Leek once again deputises at reserve after an encouraging display on Sunday against Birmingham.
The Potters, meanwhile, include the likes of 2006 British U-21 Champion Ben Wilson and former World Longtrack Finalist Tony Atkin, While Danny Phillips will miss the fixture due to a parallel Premier League commitment, Stoke have moved quickly to bring in 2015 Raiders captain Luke Chessell as guest cover, an appointment which will provide added spice to the occasion. Schroeck believes that “We can definitely get the win on Monday. We’ve got three super guys in Rob (Branford), Ben (Morley) and Luke (Priest) to give us the right foundations for the match. We just need the young boys to chip in with the extra points we need. “We’ll be using young Macauley (Leek) again at reserve. He had a real go against Birmingham, and he’s totally chuffed to have another shot. “Kenny (Bowdery) is unfortunately still out injured. He’s got depressed vertebrae from his crash at Wolverhampton, and although he’s been seeing his physio he is still in a lot of pain. “He is absolutely gutted to have to sit out matches – he feels he’s letting the rest of the Team down, which highlights his attitude – but he’s going to have to be patient and ease himself back when the time is right. “The atmosphere in the Team was really good against Birmingham, when we got Rob back, and once we get George Hunter back from his broken wrist we should really start to turn the corner.” BMR Rockets: Cameron Heeps, Peter Karger, Edward Kennett (captain), Leigh Lanham, Kasper Lykke, Ben Morley, Stuart Robson Workington Comets: Mason Campton, Rasmus Jensen, Kenneth Hansen, Adam Roynon, Claus Vissing, Ricky Wells (captain), Matt Williamson BMR Raiders: Harvie Banks, Rob Branford, George Hunter R/R, Macauley Leek (guest), Connor Locke, Ben Morley, Luke Priest (captain) Stoke Potters: Tony Atkin, Luke Chessell (guest), Ryan MacDonald, Shaun Tedham, Chris Widman, Ben Wilson, TBC at No.6 Monday’s double header admission:
Adults £20, Seniors (over 60s) £17, Full-Time Students (17-22) £15, Children (aged 12-16) £8.00, Children (under 12): FREE. Double header match programme (including 4 page Kent insert): £3.00
Please note that those seeking Student admission must provide a copy of their current student photo ID (issued by the NUS or their university/college) at the turnstiles.
Stoke supporters wishing to watch only the second half of the double header may do so by entering the turnstiles after Heat 14 of the earlier Rockets-Workington Premier League match. Normal National League prices will apply in this instance.

NEW TRAINING TRACK AT RYE HOUSE! One of Team BMR’s best kept secrets is rapidly being revealed to the public as a new junior training track takes shape within Rye House Stadium. Supporters at Sunday’s Travel Plus Knock-Out Cup match between the Raiders and Birmingham were given a sneak preview of the venture, with the marked-out circuit visible as an outline on the centre green, and the work of actually building the track is now well underway, with co-promoter Steve Jenson, BMR Rockets captain Edward Kennett and Team manager Peter Schroeck heavily involved in the operation. Says Jenson, “We’re making really good progress. We started the digging on Tuesday, and should have that part of the project completed today, so that we can then start re-laying the circuit. Supporters should be able to clearly recognise the shape of the track when they are here on Bank Holiday Monday. We are anticipating that it will be fully re-laid within the next couple of weeks, and we’ll go from there in terms of planning training programmes. “The finished length will be 105 metres, which will make it ideal for youngsters looking to take their first rides in the sport on 150cc machines. “We’ll also be able to use the track as part of the TT racing circuit we have planned. Those bikes will take bends one and two of the senior track, then turn in towards the junior oval, take it in a clockwise direction and re-join the senior circuit on the third bend, with a removable jump as part of the route. “We are also anticipating use of the junior track for Pits Bikes. It is important that we can make the facility as multi-purpose as possible.” “From a purely speedway perspective, it’s really exciting for Team BMR to be able to help provide a platform for youngsters to test out the sport for the very first time, without any pressure, and which could then lead on into the British Youth programme, our full-scale Training Schools - and potentially to a place in the BMR Raiders and beyond.” Please find attached a series of pictures of the work in progress on the new junior training circuit, taken by Rye House co-promoter Steve JensonAttachments:

ROCKETS ROAR BACK TO DRAW The BMR Rockets showed plenty more fire and commitment in battling back from deficits of 8 and later 6 points to force a thrilling 45-45 draw with Workington in the first part of Bank Holiday Monday’s double header action at Rye House. The Rockets looked dead and buried when they trailed 25-17 at Heat 7, only for Kasper Lykke to play a key part in reversing the momentum with a stunning Heat 8 display that saw him overhaul Rasmus Jensen on the second lap and then team ride with leader Ben Morley to keep the Dane at bay. Cameron Heeps and Leigh Lanham cut the deficit still further, to 26-28, by finishing either side of Claus Vissing in the next heat, before Lykke re-emerged for another storming battle, this time with Kenneth Hansen and Mason Campton, before following home captain Edward Kennett for the 5-1 that gave Rye the lead for the only time in the match. The Comets immediately retaliated with a maximum of their own in a highly eventful Heat 11 that saw Jensen weave his way past both Stuart Robson and Peter Karger to take the lead, Vissing subsequently also get past Karger for third spot…. and then Robson fall on the final lap when guaranteed second. A further Workington 5-1 in the very next race pushed the Cumbrians 39-33 ahead with just three heats remaining, before Kennett gave the Rockets fresh hope with a huge blast round the third and fourth bends to drive from third to first in one fluid movement in Heat 13. Hopes of a 5-1 ended when Ricky Wells worked his way past Robson on the third lap, but the 4-2 still kept the home side in touch at 40-44. With Heat 14 being shared, the Rockets needed a 5-1 from the final race to snag a draw and that is exactly what they got as Kennett took the victory to complete his fourth maximum of the season and Robson desperately fended off Wells to retain second place and bring the house down. It was a fitting finale to a dramatic encounter in which all fourteen riders played their full part. One of those stars was Stuart Robson, who was quick offer praise to the Comets for their part in a gripping match. “Workington have been really good all day. They caught us unaware at the start of the meeting and got a good lead before we pulled it back. The teams in the Premier League are consistently strong, and you’ve got to be on your best game every time. Of that thrilling Heat 15, he added: “Ricky (Wells) is a good rider at any track, but a good small track rider especially, so I knew I had to get across him, but he was pushing and pushing me for the rest of the race and I could hear him every lap. Luckily I just managed to keep him at bay, although I’m not quite sure how. I was possibly working too hard and I wasn’t really relaxing generally. “I missed a lot of the racing today because I had problems with my bikes in the pits, but from what little I could see I hope that Kasper has turned the corner with his display, and Ben was also plugging in the points. He really has settled in here with this Team. I know he knows this track anyway, but he’s popping in some really important scores. That’s the name of the game, really: being consistent. “And what can you say about Eddie (Kennett)? He is the anchor man of this Team, and we’re all chasing his back wheel, really. He has been fantastic all season, and if he can maintain that consistency then we’ve got a tremendous foundation. We’re are a Team through and through, and his success rubs off on us. Not so long ago, I was his captain and doing the same with him as he is doing with me now!” Rye House scorers: Edward Kennett 15 (5 rides, max), Ben Morley 7+2 (5), Stuart Robson 7+1 (5), Kasper Lykke 6+1 (4), Cameron Heeps 5 (4), Leigh Lanham 4 (4), Peter Karger 1 (3)
Workington scorers: Ricky Wells 10+1 (5 rides), Mason Campton 9 (5), Rasmus Jensen 7+2 (4), Kenneth Hansen 6+2 (4), Claus Vissing 6 (4), Adam Roynon 4+1 (4), Matt Williamson 3+1 (4) Match Points: Rye House 1 Workington 2

PETERBOROUGH VS ROCKETS – POSTPONED The BMR Rockets’ scheduled Premier League trip to Peterborough this coming Sunday (May 15th) has been postponed. Motorcycle News are hosting an event at the venue over the weekend, and although the Panthers had originally hoped that a later, 7.30pm, start time would facilitate the match, further discussions between them and the staging parties involved have concluded that the packing away of the show event would not provide a safe public environment in which to run the meeting. A new date will be announced for the East Anglian derby when confirmed. Additionally, the BMR Raiders Travel Plus National League visit to Kent has now been switched from Monday, May 16th to Monday, June 13th, with the Kings now hosting Coventry on the earlier date.

HOUSE AIM TO LAND ON WITCHES The BMR Rockets will be determined to take a leaf out of a famous children’s book and classic film when they aim to bring the house down on the Witches in this season’s Knock-Out Cup. The Rockets have already landed on Ipswich 53-39 in Hoddesdon in the Premier League, with their personal wizard Edward Kennett going through the card, and now the question is whether they can do it again when the two sides meet twice in the space of three days in the opening round of the Cup competition. The first leg of the tie is at Foxhall Heath tomorrow night (Thursday) night, with the second and deciding leg set for Hertfordshire on Saturday (7pm start). The aggregate winners will meet Berwick in the quarter-finals. As Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck emphasises, the mood in the Rockets’ camp is highly upbeat going into the tie. “We’re all really up for it – especially (former Ipswich stars) Leigh (Lanham) and Cam (Heeps), because of their ties to the Witches. Leigh still lives in the town, with Cam just down the road from him. “Being a local derby also definitely adds an extra element to the tie – not just for the fans, but also for the riders and management. We don’t get that many local derbies these days, so when you do you really want to win them. “You could see what it meant to both teams in our League match last month, just by the respective body languages of each side afterwards. As for tomorrow’s first leg in Suffolk, “I don’t want to set a target in terms of what I would consider an acceptable deficit to pull back in our home leg; that would be the wrong attitude to take into the match. We will be going there with the target of winning - that’s the approach we should take - but if that is not to be, then we will simply aim to keep the gap down as low as possible. “I do feel that we have the ability to do some damage up there. The Witches have not been consistent this season, and as I said the boys are really up for it. “In Eddie (Kennett) and Robbo (Stuart Robson), we have two riders who can go really well around Foxhall, and Leigh and Cam also know the fastest route around the place, so already we’ve got the foundations in place for a solid performance.” BMR Rockets: Cameron Heeps, Peter Karger, Edward Kennett (captain), Leigh Lanham, Kasper Lykke, Ben Morley, Stuart Robson Witches: Paco Castagna, Nico Covatti, Lewis Kerr, Danny King (captain), Morten Risager, Darryl Ritchings, James Sarjeant Footnote: As an added bonus, Saturday’s return match at Rye House will be preceded by three 150cc youth demonstration races featuring Sam Hagon, Nathan Ablitt, James Laker and Ashton Vale, which will take place prior to the Main Event which starts at 7pm.

ROCKETS HOLD WITCHES TO TWO The BMR Rockets will definitely fancy their chances of making progress in this season’s Knock-Out Cup after holding East Anglian rivals Ipswich to a 46-44 score-line after a storming finish to the first leg of their opening round tie at Foxhall Heath. The Rockets trailed by 10 points at Heat 10, and were still 8 adrift at 43-35, before stunning the Witches with a 4-2 and 5-1 in the two heats that may well prove pivotal to the final aggregate standing. Ben Morley took the first of those races to bookend his earlier victory in Heat 2, while Leigh Lanham may consider himself unlucky not to directly follow him home after being caught for second place by Morten Risager right on the line. Rye made absolutely no mistake in the finale, however, with Stuart Robson and Edward Kennett disappearing into the sunset when pitched against Nico Covatti and Lewis Kerr. The 5-1 completed Edward Kennett’s fifth maximum – and second straight – of the season, but in many ways it was Morley’s paid 10 that was even more impressive, with Robson not far off double figures on 9. Elsewhere, former Witch Cameron Heeps recovered from an opening race exclusion for bringing down race leader Lewis Kerr on the final lap of Heat 3 to secure three second places, while fellow former Ipswich star Leigh Lanham matched the Aussie’s paid 6 tally despite his Heat 14 frustration. Kasper Lykke plugged away for four third place points, but it proved another luckless night for Peter Karger, who failed to open his account. Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck was ecstatic afterwards. “I’m almost speechless. We were ten points behind, but then we had one of our team talks, and I said to the boys that one or two of them were due a win. It’s all about confidence, and it ultimately showed again tonight. “Edward (Kennett) was fantastic again, and Ben (Morley) was an absolute hero too. He’s never scored as well as that around Ipswich before, but he was on fire tonight. “And even though Peter (Karger) struggled on the track, he was there for the team and helping out wherever he could, which highlights the spirit in the camp and how hard everyone is trying. “It was an absolutely marvellous performance tonight. I am so proud of them. It really feels like a win. “We’re not going to take anything for granted on Saturday, though. We’ll start again then, and aim to complete the job. But our confidence is high, and we know that we can do it.” Rye House scorers: Edward Kennett 14+1, Stuart Robson 9, Ben Morley 8+2, Cameron Heeps 6, Kasper Lykke 4, Leigh Lanham 3+1, Peter Karger 0 Ipswich scorers: Nico Covatti 11, James Sarjeant 9, Lewis Kerr 9, Morten Risager 7+1, Danny King 5+1, Paco Castagna 4+1, Darryl Ritchings 1+1

ROCKETS TRIO EXIT BRITS It proved a quiet evening for the BMR Rockets involved in Friday night’s British Semi-Final at Scunthorpe, with all three ending their involvement in the Championship at this stage of the event. Leigh Lanham recovered from a difficult start that saw him pointless after three outings to finish on 5 points, while Edward Kennett slipped away from contention for making the cut after securing 4 points from his opening three rides, and Stuart Robson also finished on 4. Making it through to the Big Night at Belle Vue on June 13th were meeting winner Simon Stead (13), Josh Auty (12), Kyle Howarth (11), three-times Champion Chris Harris (11), Jason Garrity (10), Robert Lambert (10) and Richard Hall (9), the latter after a run-off victory over British U-21 Champion Josh Bates. Rye House Co-Promoter Steve Jenson and Team Manager Peter Schroeck were there to support their riders at the meeting, with Schroeck admitting afterwards that “It was what it was, although Leigh got a race win in his last ride, which was good for him as he’s been struggling with his bikes. “But they’ve all been around long enough to get over it, and they’re not crying about it. Their focus is now back on the Rockets. Roll on tomorrow.” That “tomorrow” brings Ipswich to Hoddesdon for the second and deciding leg of a first round Knock-Out Cup tie, with the Rockets trailing their adversaries by just two points after a 46-44 score-line in Suffolk last night. As Schroeck reiterates, “We’re taking nothing for granted in the return. We’re only half way there, but we will be absolutely determined to complete the job.” British Semi-Final scorers (all 5 rides): Simon Stead 13, Josh Auty 12, Kyle Howarth 11, Chris Harris 11, Jason Garrity 11, Robert Lambert 10, Richard Hall 9 (all qualify for British Final), Josh Bates 9 (qualifies as reserve), Lewis Kerr 7, Carl Wilkinson 7, Simon Lambert 5, Leigh Lanham 5, Edward Kennett 4, Stuart Robson 4, Robert Mear 2, Ashley Morris 0

ROCKETS UP FOR THE CUP! The BMR Rockets overcame some initial stubborn resistance to push aside East Anglian arch-rivals Ipswich 53-37 and head into the quarter-final stage of this season’s Knock-Out Cup 97-83 on aggregate. A competitive early salvo saw the Rockets nudge ahead 13-11 after four races, before successive 5-1s took them clear at 23-13. Two further maximums from Heats 9 and 10 rubber-stamped their success at 39-21 prior to the tie being mathematically clinched with a full three races to go. Edward Kennett celebrated the occasion with his sixth full house of the season. He rode undefeated throughout the tie, after previously going through the card against Ipswich in April’s League encounter in Hoddesdon. You get the feeling the Witches will be happy to see the back of him until July 7th’s return League fixture at Foxhall Heath! The night wasn’t all Kennett’s, however. Cameron Heeps (10+!) and Leigh Lanham (8+!) inflicted plenty of damage on their former club, the duo also combining for two of the Rockets’ 5-1s, but the biggest cheers of the night were reserved for Kasper Lykke, who thrilled the crowd with no less than three from-the-back performances in his paid 12 total. The Dane’s first magic moment came as early as the opening race, when he repeatedly tried the inside line to pass adversary Paco Castagna for third spot, before finally driving past his rival on the outside on the third lap. That set the scene for a Heat 6 that saw Nico Covatti focus his attention on Edward Kennett, taking the Rye House skipper out wide on the second bend – but allowing Lykke to dive under him in the process. Covatti’s tumble on the fourth corner ended the battle, with Kennett and Lykke rattling up a comfortable 5-1 in the re-run. Lykke secured a full race win of his own in Heat 8, prior to coming from the back against the experienced Morten Risager to join partner Kennett at the front of Heat 10, and fully deserved his place in the nominated race, where he zipped inside World Cup Lion Danny King for second position on the opening circuit and very nearly caught winner Risager right on the finish line. A delighted Lykke said, “It’s really going well now. I got the bikes going well tonight; We’ve been testing a lot, and doing a lot of work, and my mechanic and I have been trying a bit of a crazy set-up… and it works. Awesome! “It makes it easier with a good team spirit, and great team mates who are looking after each other both on and off the track.” Despite the ultimately one-sided score-line, the Dane also emphasised the fiercely competitive nature of the tie. “Everyone wanted to go through in the Cup. It’s been an excellent two meetings, and there’s a trophy to win. So everyone was fired up – both them and us – and it was all about going out there and doing our best.” Lykke’s recent return to the rich vein of form he showed in 2015 followed a winter operation on a troublesome knee. How is that knee doing now, and had it impacted on his earlier quiet spell? “The leg is absolutely perfect, and it’s been good all season. I haven’t been struggling with it at all. That’s not why I had a bit of a bad start; I’ve got to be honest with that. I was struggling with a few things, mentally and stuff, and it was a bit hard. But now I feel that we’re getting back on it, and I’m also getting more meetings back home now as well to build momentum.” The Rockets will now meet Berwick in the final eight, as they did last season, with dates for the two fixtures to be arranged. BMR Rockets: Edward Kennett 12 (4 rides, maximum), Kasper Lykke 10+2 (5), Cameron Heeps 10+1 (5), Leigh Lanham 8+1 (4), Stuart Robson 7 (4), Ben Morley 3+2 (4), Peter Karger 3+1 (4)
Ipswich scorers: Morten Risager 11 (5 rides), Danny King 8 (5), Paco Castagna 7 (5), Lewis Kerr 5+1 (4), Nico Covatti 4 (4), Danyon Hume 1+1 (4), James Sarjeant 1 (4)

RYE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE :::::::: FROM RAINED-OFF TO REIGNING CHAMPS The BMR Rockets saw the second scheduling of their Premier League away match at Sheffield follow directly in the footsteps of its predecessor, as once again wet weather put paid to the fixture. On this occasion, the call-off came just under half an hour ahead of tonight's planned start time. Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck takes up the story: “It was just after 7pm. It was pouring down with rain. The referee and the two captains went up to the first bend, came back to the pits, and that was basically that. It was one of those things, but I guess we live to fight another day.” That next fight will come on Sunday, when the Rockets return to Hoddesdon to face back-to-back Premier League Champions Edinburgh. The Monarchs team includes 2011 PLRC winner Sam Masters, double German national titlist Kevin Wölbert, former American World Cup ace “The Fish” Ryan Fisher and new kid on the block Daniel Bewley, who impressed with 15 when the Belle Vue Colts were in Hertfordshire just a fortnight ago. The Scottish side will also be hoping to see Erik Riss back in action after the 2014 World Longtrack Champion suffered a heavy fall during Monday’s Grand Prix Qualifier at Abensberg. Schroeck and his Team are clearly relishing Sunday’s challenge. “If we can perform the way we did last week against Ipswich, we can definitely get the result. There’s no reason why we can’t. “Beating the League Champions would also lay down a little marker, and help put us on the map. It would make people sit up and give credit. “I really do believe that we’ve got something this year, because the League is so consistently good. No one is unbeatable. We can be up there with all of them, and do some damage. I really believe that. Sunday’s League match starts at 6pm. Prior to that main event, at 5.30, the pre-meeting will feature three 150cc demonstration races involving the Young Lions of the future. BMR Rockets: Cameron Heeps, Peter Karger, Edward Kennett (captain), Leigh Lanham, Kasper Lykke, Ben Morley, Stuart Robson Edinburgh: Daniel Bewley, Max Clegg, Jye Etheridge, Ryan Fisher, Sam Masters, Erik Riss (or R/R), Kevin Wölbert
