LAKESIDE sent a clear message to their Elite League rivals with a 66-26 demolition of Leicester at the Arena-Essex Raceway. The Vortex Hammers provided all 15 race winners and ran just two last places with a dominant display to maintain their perfect home record. Andreas Jonsson, Richard Lawson and Lewis Kerr all struck faultless paid maximums whilst Eddie Kennett and Lewis Bridger also bagged double figures with impressive performances. Promoter Jon Cook was full of praise for the professionalism shown by his side - and he has called on his side to deliver a repeat performance in the return fixture at Beaumont Park on Saturday night (7.30). “It was a terrific team performance,” said Cook. “Obviously there are going to be harder meetings but we were professional from start to finish. “Some people may have felt we were on the edge of a malaise, but the boys answered any doubts perfectly with a really convincing performance. “They were back at work and back focused, and the manner of this victory gives us a lot of confidence heading to Leicester tomorrow and before a huge home meeting against Wolverhampton on Wednesday. “When we’ve won at home by such a big score, you’d hope we’ll be able to go to Leicester tomorrow and get a result. “We know it’s crucial that we manage to get something from Leicester tomorrow, so hopefully we take our momentum into that meeting and get another victory.” LAKESIDE 66: Richard Lawson 16+2, Andreas Jonsson 15+3, Edward Kennett 12+1, Lewis Kerr 11+1, Lewis Bridger 10+1, Robert Mear 2, Kim Nilsson r/r. LEICESTER 26: Davey Watt 9, Paul Starke 8+1, Aaron Summers 3, Nicolai Klindt 2+1, Patrick Hougaard 2, Josh Auty 2, Szymon Wozniak r/r. Elite League points: Lakeside 3 Leicester 0

LAKESIDE performed last-heat heroics as they snatched a dramatic 46-44 away win over Leicester at Beaumont Park. The Vortex Hammers completed a quick-fire double over the Lions with a battling display just 24 hours after their crushing victory when the sides met at the Arena-Essex Raceway. The Purfleet outfit led for the majority of the meeting but were pegged back as the home side struck back to back 5-1s in heats eight and nine. They entered the final race level - but guest Craig Cook roared to victory whilst skipper Andreas Jonsson blasted into third place to ensure they snatched victory. It was a gutsy performance from the high-flying Hammers - and promoter Jon Cook was full of praise for the character shown by his side. Cook said: "The meeting was on a knife-edge throughout, so we were delighted to get over the line and get the win in the last race. "Craig Cook was an absolutely superb guest for us, and with AJ he did the business in the last race which was superb. "We weren't at our best, we perhaps had a win that was too easy last night, and we made hard work of it. "Fair play to Leicester, they made things hard for us, but the boys got the job done when the chips were down and we are delighted to get an away win." Cook top-scored for the visitors with 11+1, whilst Grand Prix star Jonsson also notched paid double figures. Richard Lawson bagged an important nine points in the No.3 spot as Lakeside won the battle of the heat-leaders. Leicester skipper Nicolai Klindt struck a stunning, seven-ride paid maximum at reserve for the hosts, but the Hammers ran just six last places with a strong all-around team display. Having continued their confident start to the season with two tremendous wins, the Vortex Hammers will face a tough test as they host in-form Wolverhampton in front of the Sky TV cameras on Wednesday (8pm). LEICESTER 44: Nicolai Klindt 20+1, Patrick Hougaard 9+2, Josh Auty 6+2, Aaron Summers 5, Davey Watt 4, Chris Widman 0, Szymon Wozniak r/r. LAKESIDE 46: Craig Cook 11+1, Andreas Jonsson 9+1, Richard Lawson 9, Edward Kennett 5+1, Lewis Kerr 4+3, Lewis Bridger 4+1, Robert Mear 4.

LAKESIDE are gearing up for a mouth-watering top of the table clash as they host high-flying Wolverhampton at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Wednesday (7.30). The Vortex Hammers have been in dominant form on home shale but are anticipating a major challenge as they welcome a Wolves side who have themselves enjoyed an impressive start to the season. The Purfleet outfit head into the meeting with a slender one-point advantage over the Monmore Green side at the top of the Elite League standings. The Hammers will be at full strength, with Edward Kennett retaining his place in the side ahead of Piotr Swiderski. Kennett knows they will need to be at the top of their game to come out on top in front of the Sky TV cameras – but he has called on them to repeat their convincing display against Leicester last week in their bid to earn three more points. “It’s been a good start to the season and there is a good team spirit within the side,” Kennett said. “We’re looking very strong at home, and if we can just pick up a few more points away then we’ll be in a good position to make the top four. “We’ve got a tough one coming up on Wednesday against Wolverhampton. I think it’ll be difficult, because they have a lot of good riders. “They are in good form and could cause some problems around Lakeside, but if we ride like we did against Leicester then I think we can beat anyone.” Lewis Bridger will drop to reserve for the Hammers with Lewis Kerr moving into the No.4 spot. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton are led by former Grand Prix star Fredrik Lindgren and also feature former Lakeside favourite Mikkel Bech. The main meeting will be preceded by three heats of junior racing, starting at 7pm. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Edward Kennett, Richard Lawson, Lewis Kerr, Kim Nilsson, Lewis Bridger, Robert Mear. WOLVERHAMPTON: Fredrik Lindgren, Mikkel Bech, Sam Masters, Jacob Thorssell, Joonas Kylmakorpi, Kyle Howarth, Max Clegg.

LEWIS Bridger was in brilliant form to inspire Elite League leaders Lakeside to a 53-37 win over play-off rivals Wolverhampton on Wednesday. The result preserved the Vortex Hammers' proud unbeaten home record and keeps them top of the table. Bridger notched a staggering 17+1 from seven outings and with star man Andreas Jonsson carding 13+1 the home side were in fine form. Said Bridger: "I know I will only be at reserve for a short space of time but I'm delighted with that performance. "I really enjoyed it and I love this track, it's great. "I know a lot has been made of rivalry within the team between me and Edward (Kennett) but we've raced against each other for years and in the same team too. We are both competitive riders and we have no problem with each other, he rode well and so did I. "I've beaten some top riders tonight and that pleases me, so when I go back into the main body of the team I feel confident I can keep it going." The Vortex Hammers, watched by club owner Stuart Douglas and the big TV following on Sky Sports, pulled off a series of thrilling moves to thrill the audience. Kennett and Bridger passed former Hammer Mikkel Bech in a spectacular Heat 5 to go 16-14 up. And Andreas Jonsson and Kim Nilssson passed Sam Masters two heats later to go 23-19 ahead. It was the last five heats when Jon Cook's men slammed home their superiority with a 21-9 scoreline swing to make the result look emphatic. Lakeside go to Belle Vue on Saturday and their next home meeting is against Swindon on Friday, June 17. LAKESIDE 53: Lewis Bridger 17+1, Andreas Jonsson 13+1, Edward Kennett 9+2, Kim Nilsson 6+1, Richard Lawson 5, Robert Mear 2+1, Lewis Kerr 1. WOLVERHAMPTON 37: Joonas Kylmakorpi 9, Freddie Lindgren 8+1, Max Clegg 5+1, Mikkel Bech 4+2, Sam Masters 4, Kyle Howarth 4, Jacob Thorssell 3+1.

LAKESIDE skipper Andreas Jonsson says confidence is sky-high within the camp ahead of their trip to Belle Vue on Saturday (7.30). The Vortex Hammers extended their lead at the top of the Elite League table with a convincing 53-37 win over second-placed Wolverhampton at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Wednesday. Jonsson roared to a scintillating 13+1 point haul against the Monmore Green outfit to once again lead by example in the No.1 spot. The Swedish favourite revealed they are heading to the new National Speedway Stadium looking to pick up where they left off against a highly-rated Aces side. "We go to Belle Vue in a confident mood after Wednesday's win over Wolverhampton," said Jonsson. "All the boys rode well and we are having a good season so far but we know we have to do a bit better away from home. "I'm looking forward to going to Belle Vue and the new stadium, everyone is saying how good it is. "We will be going there looking to get a result to keep our points tally moving in the league table." The Hammers will be without Edward Kennett due to a meeting for Premier League side Rye House, with rider replacement covering his absence. The hosts also use rider replacement at No.2 with in-form Aussie youngster Max Fricke riding in the World Under 21 Team Cup. They will be led by Grand Prix star Matej Zagar and Great Britain internationals Scott Nicholls and Craig Cook. BELLE VUE: Matej Zagar; Max Fricke R/R, Scott Nicholls, Richie Worrall, Craig Cook, Steve Worrall, Joe Jacobs. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Edward Kennett R/R, Richard Lawson, Lewis Kerr, Kim Nilsson, Lewis Bridger; Robert Mear.

LAKESIDE fell just short of a consolation point as they slipped to a 50-40 defeat against Belle Vue at the National Speedway Stadium. The Vortex Hammers put in another battling away performance against the highly-rated Aces – but they were unable to repeat last Saturday’s last-gasp victory at Leicester. They were level after eight heats but conceded a costly 5-1 in the penultimate race as they missed out on the chance to add to their Elite League points tally. Team coach Kelvin Tatum admitted they were disappointed to leave Manchester empty-handed, although he was keen to look at the positives after another encouraging display on their travels. Tatum said: “It was a spirited display but it wasn’t quite enough to pick up that all-important league point which was disappointing. “It’s a case of déjà vu truth as we’ve been in a similar position on more than one occasion away from home and haven’t got the points to show for it. “It’s difficult to criticise because we did compete very well, and we weren’t far away at all, but it would be nice to turn some more of these good away performances into hard-earned league points.” British ace Lewis Bridger continued his fine form to top score with 9+2, whilst reserve partner Robert Mear also bagged an excellent 7+1. Kim Nilsson contributed paid 10 in the No.5 spot with a solid showing, but with Andreas Jonsson proving solid yet unspectacular at No.1 the visitors only managed three race wins. One of those came from Richard Lawson, who struggled to build on a superb ride in heat three, whilst Lewis Kerr fought hard for little reward in the middle order. After a busy spell, the Purfleet outfit will have a chance to regroup before returning to action against Swindon at the Abbey on Thursday, June 16 (7.30) then hosting the Robins in the return fixture at the Arena-Essex Raceway 24 hours later. BELLE VUE 50: Steve Worrall 16+1, Craig Cook 15, Scott Nicholls 8, Joe Jacobs 5, Richie Worrall 3+1, Matej Zagar 3+1, Max Fricke r/r. LAKEISDE 40: Lewis Bridger 9+2, Andreas Jonsson 8, Kim Nilsson 7+3, Robert Mear 7+1, Richard Lawson 6, Lewis Kerr 3+1, Edward Kennett r/r.

LAKESIDE coach Kelvin Tatum knows they are set for a vital two days as they prepare for two clashes with fellow play-off hopefuls Swindon. The Vortex Hammers will travel to the Abbey on Thursday looking to inflict a third successive home defeat on the Robins. They will then host the return fixture at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday (8pm) as they aim to extend their winning home record to eight meetings. Tatum admits it could be a season-defining spell as they aim to bolster their top four bid. He is keen to see them bounce back from a defeat at Belle Vue in their last away fixture to add to their tally on the road before claiming another three points at Purfleet on Friday. “After another frustrating night on our travels at Belle Vue a few weeks ago we are going in search of some points on the road,” Tatum said. “Swindon are a totally baffling side because they've got such a great team yet they've been very up and down early doors. “The outcome of these meetings could be huge when it comes to the reckoning for the play-off places, and we’re going to have to be at our very best once again.” The Purfleet outfit will be without Kim Nilsson for the trip to the Abbey due to a meeting in Sweden. Great Britain international Craig Cook has been booked to fill in as a guest, whilst Edward Kennett retains his spot to take on his former club. Lewis Bridger returns to the main body of the side, with Lewis Kerr subsequently dropping back down to reserve as they aim to improve on a 50-40 defeat when they last visited Wiltshire last month. SWINDON: Jason Doyle, Rohan Tungate, Nick Morris, Justin Sedgmen, Josh Grajczonek, Charles Wright, Stefan Nielsen. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Lewis Bridger, Richard Lawson, Edward Kennett, Craig Cook, Lewis Kerr, Robert Mear.

LAKESIDE will now head to Swindon next Thursday - after tonight's trip to the Abbey was postponed. Heavy rain throughout the Wiltshire region, with the forecast of more to come, left club officials with no alternative and the Vortex Hammers management were quick to co-operate with next Thursday's new date arranged quickly. The sides will, meanwhile, meet on Friday night at the Arena-Essex Raceway and a full preview will be issued later today.

LAKESIDE star Richard Lawson knows a victory could be vital when they host fellow play-off hopefuls on Friday (8pm). The Vortex Hammers will host the Robins in a crucial clash at the Arena-Essex Raceway after seeing their trip to Wiltshire on Thursday abandoned due to rain. Lawson, who has enjoyed an encouraging season to date, says they are desperate to get back on track after a 13-day break since their last meeting. And he believes they have what it takes to earn three more points and extend their dominant home run to seven successive meetings. Lawson said: “It’s tough having all these breaks in the fixture list, but we’ll all be looking forward to getting back in action against Swindon. “They are another team aiming to get in the play-offs, so I suppose that makes it extra important for us. “Hopefully we can get three points from them because they could be massive at the end of the season. “Our form has been great at home but we can’t take anything for granted, we just have to keep the same approach and ride as we have been.” Both sides look set to be at full strength for the meeting, although Nick Morris will face a late fitness test on his foot injury before confirming whether he will take his place in the Swindon side. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Edward Kennett, Richard Lawson, Lewis Bridger, Kim Nilsson, Lewis Kerr, Robert Mear. SWINDON: Jason Doyle, Rohan Tungate, Nick Morris, Justin Sedgmen, Josh Grajczonek, Charles Wright, Stefan Nielsen.

LAKESIDE will look to take a crucial step towards the Elite League play-offs when they travel to Swindon on Thursday (7.30). The Vortex Hammers will head to the Abbey with high hopes of adding to their points tally in a fixture swiftly re-arranged after being postponed last week. The Purfleet outfit will be without inspirational No.1 Andreas Jonsson due to a Polish League fixture, whilst Swedish racer Kim Nilsson is riding in his homeland. Co-promoter Jon Cook admits the situation is far from ideal – but having drafted in Craig Cook as a guest, he is backing their depleted side to come away with a positive result. Said Cook: “It’s another quiet week for us with just a trip to Swindon, which we took at short notice to help them out. “We go there with no Kim Nilsson due to a meeting in Sweden, and Andreas Jonsson is also missing because of a re-arranged Polish fixture. “It's not ideal, but we've managed to get Craig Cook in to guest so hopefully it won't affect us too much. “We want to go there and get something, so hopefully after so long since our last meeting the boys will be itching to put in a good performance.” Swindon will be at full strength for the clash, with Grand Prix star Jason Doyle leading an all-Australian top five as they bid to recover from two successive home defeats. SWINDON: Jason Doyle, Rohan Tungate, Nick Morris, Justin Sedgmen, Josh Grajczonek, Charles Wright, Stefan Nielsen. LAKESIDE: Craig Cook, Lewis Bridger, Richard Lawson, Eddie Kennett, Kim Nilsson R/R, Lewis Kerr, Robert Mear.

LAKESIDE boss Kelvin Tatum admitted they were disappointed not to earn any Elite League points after a 52-41 defeat against Swindon at the Abbey. The Vortex Hammers were always set to face an uphill task in their re-arranged clash in Wiltshire, with top two Andreas Jonsson and Kim Nilsson both missing. Despite Edward Kennett putting in a breathtaking performance against his former club, it was not enough to see the Purfleet outfit add to their Elite League tally. Tatum conceded it was a familiar tale as they fell short in their quest to claim at least a consolation point on their travels. Said Tatum: “It’s been the story of our season so far, we just haven’t quite managed to click into gear away from home and it was the same tonight. “There were just too many weak links tonight, and although we finished with a bit of a flourish we have that feeling of frustration again. “Looking at the positives, there was a brilliant performance from Edward (Kennett). He was absolutely outstanding and you can’t ask for much more than that.” Kennett starred throughout with a stunning performance, claiming four race wins including a tactical ride triumph in heat nine. However, guesting No.1 Craig Cook was the only other Lakeside rider to record a race win when he took the chequered flag in heat 13. Lewis Bridger, Lewis Kerr and Robert Mear battled hard throughout to put in creditable displays, but with Richard Lawson enduring a night to forget they were left short of firepower. The Vortex Hammers will now look to bounce back from their disappointment and return to winning ways when they host Poole in a mouth-watering clash at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday, July 1. SWINDON 52: Charles Wright 10+1, Josh Grajczonek 10+1, Jason Doyle 9+1, Nick Morris 8+1, Justin Sedgmen 7+1, Rohan Tungate 4+1, Stefan Nielsen 4. LAKESIDE 41: Edward Kennett 18, Craig Cook 10, Lewis Bridger 5+2, Lewis Kerr 4+2, Robert Mear 4, Richard Lawson 0, Kim Nilsson r/r. Elite League points: Swindon 3 Lakeside 0

LAKESIDE reserve Lewis Kerr is aiming to hit top form over the second half of the season – starting against Poole at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday (8pm). The Vortex Hammers will look to extend their winning home record to eight successive meetings when they host the highly-rated Pirates. Kerr, 26, is looking to help them enjoy a winning return to Purfleet, exactly a month after defeating table-toppers Wolverhampton in their last home meeting. The all-action racer has enjoyed a solid start to his Lakeside career after making the winter switch from King’s Lynn. Having got to grips with his new home circuit, he is now looking to kick-on and end the campaign in style. Said Kerr: “I’ve had some up and down meetings, as was probably expected after my injury, but I’m hoping to finish a lot stronger. “I really want to smash the rest of the season and end the year on a high. That’s the plan, so we’ll see how things go. “Lakeside is a really good club for me, I seem to have the track dialled in now as well so I’m enjoying that. “We’ve got a good team here with a great group of lads, and the management seem good as well so things are working out well. “The main thing at the moment is just to make sure we reach that top four, and if we keep winning at home and pick up the odd point away we should make it. “We’re in a great position at this stage of the season, we just need to work hard to stay there and make sure we are in those play-offs.”
