RYE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE SUMMERS TIME The BMR Rockets have made a late change to their line-up less than a fortnight ahead of the opening fixtures of their 2018 season, which are against Swindon on Easter Monday. Ben Barker has left the club through mutual agreement by both parties, and, subject to final ratification by the BSPA, Aaron Summers will be the rider taking his place. The experienced Australian is previously best known for runs with Coventry, Edinburgh and Glasgow, winning League titles with both the Bees and Monarchs along the way. 2018 will mark his return to the top-flight after a season’s absence, with Summers also set to start the campaign as No.1 at SGB Championship side Berwick following three years with Glasgow. Commented Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck, “While we are disappointed that there has been a parting of the ways with Ben – he was always a 100% trier and a real firecracker – we are also excited about having Aaron on-board. We are confident that he will do well for us, and that he will slot into the team very quickly. He has ridden with Bomber (Chris Harris), Scott (Nicholls) and Robbo (Stuart Robson) at Coventry, so he already knows half the team very well and it won’t take him long to fit into what we want to do this season. “He is one of those guys who has perhaps been penalised in the past by his average when it comes to getting a top-flight spot, but he has waited for another chance and he is determined to take it. “He is also a Championship No.1 who should give us some real strength in the No.2 position of our own riding order.” Summers himself is looking forward to his new challenge. “I missed out on a team spot in the Premiership last year, and I feel I really lost out by not having a doubling-up role and the full racing calendar that brings. It is something I really want to make up for this time around.” The Aussie’s doubling-up role should have an additional benefit. “I have ridden at No.1 for Glasgow in the past, and I am looking forward to being in that position at Berwick – especially as it is only fifteen miles from where I live as the closest track to my home – which should have a positive knock-on effect on my form for Rye.” Citing a monster paid 15 haul for Glasgow at Hoddesdon in 2015 as an example of one of his high-scores, he continues, “I’ve had some up and down meetings at Rye House in the past, but it’s a different story when it becomes your home track. I am absolutely sure the rest of the guys will give me some good advice on the best set-up.” On a separate matter, the media and public should note that there will be no formal pre-season Press and Practice Day at Rye House this year due to building work going on at the stadium and which includes a new referee’s box being sited this week. That does not mean, however, that the BMR Rockets will be going in “cold” for Easter Monday’s home and away Knock-Out Cup matches against defending league champions Swindon. Krzysztof Kasprzak was in town for a private practice session yesterday, and he and the rest of the team will have closed practice sessions between now and the Big Opener on April 2nd.

RYE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE: TS “BP MITCHELL” ROCKETS! The Rockets have received a tremendous extra boost ahead of Easter Monday’s home and away openers against defending league champions Swindon with the agreement of a team sponsorship deal with local company BP Mitchell. Based centrally at their head office in Hatfield, BP Mitchell operate from numerous sites across Hertfordshire, providing haulage for the building and construction industry. Their services include demolition, waste management, site clearance, skip hire and the supply of building and aggregate materials. Their plant hire service spans a wide range of vehicles and equipment; from grab and tipper lorries to concrete crushers and pumps. For full details, please visit their website at www.bpmitchell.co.uk, drop them a mail at info@bpmitchell.co.uk or call them on 01707 261166. Rye House Co-Promoter Steve Jenson said, “We are delighted to welcome Brendan Mitchell (company founder and director) and his team on-board with us as we launch our second season in the SGB Premiership. “Our relationship has actually come together in a very short period of time in the last few days. It began when BP Mitchell delivered all the soil we are using on a new Stadium Cross track that now sits on the centre green inside the Speedway circuit. “Brendan was unfamiliar at that point with Speedway, asked what it was all about and – to use the old adage – the rest is history. It all went from there. “We are proud to have them as our new team sponsors; we thank them very much for their support, and we look forward to being able to promote their brand within our own sporting medium. “Supporters will have the chance to see the new Stadium Cross circuit on Monday when we will be using it for a pre-meeting demonstration – as you know, it is so important to make full use of a facility like Rye House Stadium with events like Stadium Cross in order to augment the main use for the Speedway – and to see the “BP Mitchell” Rockets in action for the first time too.” Fans can get an early taster of the Stadium Cross circuit by watching the brief video attached. If you look carefully, you will see Rockets captain Scott Nicholls and Rye House Co-Promoter Steve Jenson involved in the action! There's the usual hot air being blown about on the forum whose title is 'banned' on here about the new stadium cross circuit at Rye House. As usual the detractors are shouting without facing the reality - that the stadium cross circuit is part of the deal with the new sponsors. Obviously, as is the case with the flat track brigade, the stadium cross people will be staging their own events at Rye House this summer. It has also been queried in 'the other forum place' as to its legality and uttering about what the SGB might rule in regard to the stadium cross circuit. TBH my assessment is that its 'here to stay' or for at least as long as the new sponsors are involved. It all reminds me of the rows that used to take place in the mid 1950s when stock cars started sharing tracks and stadiums. That didn't get very far either and, tbh, as I see it the oval car brigade are now basically in a stronger position than speedway - and four speedway clubs are even tenants of a stock car landlord.

RYE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE THE BIG PREVIEW: ROCKETS VS SWINDON The “BP Mitchell” Rockets roar back into action for their second season in the top flight on Easter Monday, determined not only to put one over the defending league champions but to gain revenge for last season’s early Cup exit against the same opposition. The Swindon Robins lifted last year’s SGB Premiership trophy after topping the regular season table and then edging Wolverhampton in the Play-Off Final 90-89 on aggregate…. that, incredibly, after losing their home leg by four points! They also proved a bogey team for the Rockets, winning three of the Premiership head-to-heads between the two sides and eliminating Rye from the Cup by winning both legs of the tie. The Rockets, however, will definitely remember last September’s last encounter with the Wiltshire side, as a 46-29 romp past the Robins not only put that bogey to rest in an emphatic manner but ended Swindon’s Premiership winning streak at 17 matches. Four of the Rockets who shone that night will be back in the Black, Chrome and Orange for Monday’s Knock-Out Cup tie, which kicks off in Hoddesdon at 12 noon before the two sides head west to Wiltshire for the second leg at 7.30 the same evening. 7-times British Champion Scott Nicholls and 3-times winner Chris “Bomber” Harris will head the charge, with 2014 World No.2 Krzysztof Kasprzak and Stuart Robson – who celebrates his 25th year in the sport in 2018 – also returning. Of the “newbies”, Edward Kennett is more than familiar to Hertfordshire fans, leaving only the recently signed Aaron Summers and 2016 NLRC and British U-19 winner Max Clegg as totally fresh faces. While the league’s team-building ceiling has meant the departure of World Champion Jason Doyle to Somerset, the Robins have been able to retain five of the riders who wore their colours last term. Championship Individual winner Nick Morris is now installed at No.1, followed in by fellow Roo – and 2014 ELRC winner - Troy Batchelor (who has returned to the Abbey Stadium after a two year absence) and exciting Polish star Tobiasz Musielak. 2010 French Champion David Bellego and 2016 World U-21 Finalist Adam Ellis fill the middle order, while the reserve slots are taken by British U-19 Champion Zach Wajtknecht and 2017 Edinburgh Monarch Mitchell Davey. Any thought that the Robins’ appetite for silverware has been sated by their league success has already been wiped away by their 94-86 aggregate victory over Belle Vue in the Charity Shield in their season opener. Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck is excited about Monday’s two clashes and the start of the new campaign in general. “This is our second season in the top flight, and we really want to make a name for ourselves because of how close we came to making the Play-Offs last year. “Everybody has been practicing, and some of the boys have already had one or two meetings. Everybody is full of confidence, and they just want to get out there and race. “Thirty races in one day is a bit of a marathon – but so is the season, and the boys are used to it anyway. It is all about getting a positive result at our place to set ourselves up for the second leg in the evening – and also setting the tone for where we want to be come September-time.” BP Mitchell Rockets: Max Clegg, Chris Harris, Krzysztof Kasprzak, Edward Kennett, Scott Nicholls, Stuart Robson, Aaron Summers Swindon: Troy Batchelor, David Bellego, Mitchell Davey, Adam Ellis, Tobiasz Musielak, Nick Morris (captain), Zach Wajtknecht In addition to Monday lunchtime’s main event, the Rye House leg of the tie will also feature six Rocketeers races at 125cc and 250cc level. Admission: Adults £18, Seniors (over 60s) £16, Registered Disabled £12 (Accompanying Carer £12), Full-Time Students (17-22) £6, Children (aged 12-16) £6, Children (under 12) FREE. Match programme: £2. Please note that those seeking Student admission must provide a copy of their current student photo ID (issued by the NUS or their university/college) at the turnstiles. Gates for the Rye House leg of the Knock-Out Cup tie open at 10.30am, ahead of the start time of 12 noon.

Personally I am unlikely to be affected by the installation of the stadium cross circuit on the centre green at Rye House, but I do wonder if there could be a 'cross track viewing' problem for spectators. How will viewing be affected if one stands centre on one straight in regard to viewing across the track to the other straight? As I see the images of the new construction it looks as though a view of the far opposite straight could be obscured?

That is one worry me me I have to say as we normally stand by the fence around the start/finish straight so will our vision be hampered? I realise they have to get full use of the facility and I hope my fears are unfounded.

RYE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE SWINDON VS ROCKETS – POSTPONED The “BP Mitchell” Rockets scheduled Knock-Out Cup trip to Swindon has now also fallen foul of the wet weather, meaning that both legs of the tie have been postponed a full day ahead of their planned timing. The only Rocket to be involved in action this Easter weekend has been Scott Nicholls, who scored 11 points last night in Workington’s Cumberland Classic individual. The Rye House team captain finished just a point shy of a rostrum place in a meeting that was won by Rory Schlein. The Rockets are due at Somerset on Wednesday in their first SGB Premiership fixture, while the next meeting at Rye House will be on Wednesday, April 11th, as the Rockets take on Leicester – complete with Grand Prix star Martin Vaculik – in what is now their home opener (7.30 start time).

RYE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE: THE BIG PREVIEW: ROCKETS VS LEICESTER The “BP Mitchell” Rockets will be aiming to make it fourth time lucky when they finally get their 2018 season off the ground in Hoddesdon on Wednesday night (7.30 start). Easter’s wet and wild weather put paid to both legs of the Rockets’ Knock-Out Cup tie against Swindon, and also took out last Wednesday’s SGB Premiership trip to Somerset, leaving the Hertfordshire side to focus instead on a new opener against Leicester. The Lions, for their part, have appeared on track just once as a team this season, edging Somerset in a challenge fixture, as they look to prove themselves a very different proposition to the sides that have finished bottom of the table the last two campaigns. The Midlanders’ renewed optimism is certainly well-founded, based as it is on a radically overhauled line-up that has 2016 British Champion Danny King and Kyle Newman as its only returnees. Former Grand Prix star Hans Andersen has arrived to provide fresh reinforcement, and so too Michael Palm Toft – who once famously completed a six ride maximum at Rye House when guesting for Berwick – who has slotted in as injury cover for Josh Bates, and 2012 Raider James Sarjeant. There is little doubt, however, that the biggest waves have been made through the Lions’ capture of World No.9 Martin Vaculik and 2016 World U-21 Silver medallist Krystian Pieszczek, who are racing in Britain for the first time. Vaculik already has two Grand Prix round wins to his name, while Pieszczek’s debut against the Rebels netted the Pole paid 13! Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck is looking forward to Wednesday’s head-to-head. “We already know from last year that there are no easy matches in this league, and because of the way the way the weather has played havoc we all definitely start on a level playing field. “Having said that, all the boys have managed some racing and practice, so they are not totally cold and I don’t believe it will take them long to get into the swing of things. K.K. (Krzysztof Kasprzak) hit a 15 point maximum for his Polish club Gorzow on Sunday, so he is already flying, and Max (Clegg) was in great form in his U-21 Semi-Final at Eastbourne on Saturday. He also bagged the fastest time of the night (in a challenge match) at Edinburgh on Friday. We’re looking forward to working with him and putting in guys around him who will help to really bring him on. “But it’s not just K.K. and Max. As I said last week, everybody is full of confidence, and they just want to get out there and race. “The bottom line is that we are looking to continue from exactly where we left off at the end of last season. After coming so close to making it to the Play-Offs last year, we really want to take the club on to the next level in 2018. It all starts here.” “BP Mitchell” Rockets: Max Clegg, Chris Harris, Krzysztof Kasprzak, Edward Kennett, Scott Nicholls (captain), Stuart Robson, Aaron Summers Leicester: Hans Andersen, Danny King (captain), Kyle Newman, Krystian Pieszczek, James Sarjeant, Michael Palm Toft, Martin Vaculik In addition to Wednesday’s main event, the meeting will also feature six Rocketeers races at 125cc and 250cc level.
