Hammers v Panther Double Header Preview It’s another busy weekend for Lakeside who face Peterborough three times in the space of two days.
The Hammers host the Panthers at Rye House's Hoddesdon Stadium in a double-header on Saturday (7pm) with the first leg of their Championship Shield semi-final followed by the second leg of the Knockout Cup quarter-final.
Lakeside then travel to the East of England Arena on Sunday (5pm) for their Shield decider with a place in the final on the line.
The Hammers have been boosted by the news that Kyle Newman has declared himself fit to ride following a recent wrist injury, but reserve Zach Wajtknecht remains sidelined with a back problem - American talent Broc Nicol steps in.
Team manager Will Pottinger said: "For me, having Kyle back in the team is a really big boost for everyone.
"He’s someone who’s very hard to cover for with rider replacement the only real facility and he’s the key link between our heat-leaders and the reserves.
"It's going to be another tough night on Saturday, but we have to simply get our heads down and give it our absolute best over 30 heats of speedway.
"There’s very little room for error, it’s a fine line between success and failure, but we’re more than capable of being able to pull off back-to-back wins.
"Our aim is to build-up a good healthy lead in the first meeting to give us the best possible chance of progressing to the Final of the Championship Shield before giving it everything we’ve got to hit Peterborough as early as we can and pull off the difficult task of overturning the 14-point deficit against us in the Knockout Cup."
Peterborough bring in James Sarjeant at reserve and are without Bradley Wilson-Dean who is undergoing an operation.
The Panthers had booked Redcar's Ben Barker to guest at No.1 but are now frantically searching for a replacement after he suffered a broken arm and dislocated shoulder on Thursday.
Lakeside Hammers:
Richard Lawson, Ben Morley, Adam Ellis, Kyle Newman, Nick Morris, Broc Nicol, Alfie Bowtell.
Peterborough Panthers: TBC, Bradley Wilson-Dean R/R, Emil Grondal, Ulrich Ostergaard, Michael Palm Toft, James Sarjeant, Simon Lambert.

Double Header on Saturday
The Lakeside Hammers have confirmed that this Saturday’s meeting at Rye House in the Shield Semi Final against the Peterborough Panthers will be followed by the second leg of the KO cup rained off last Sunday, following failure to agree a mid week re-staging date.
Hammers Co-Promoter Jon Cook commented “This isn’t ideal but time is not on our hands. Having the same teams on track twice at least avoids the delays that blighted our event a fortnight ago and we will be on track determined to put one foot in the Shield final and both in the KO Semi by the time the last race is run.”

Double header Meeting Report September 30, 2018 Lakeside picked up two wins from their double header against Peterborough at Rye House – but it was a mixed night for the Hammers.
They take a ten point lead into the second leg of their Championship Shield semi-final clash at the East of England Arena on Sunday courtesy of a 50-40 triumph in the first meeting.
But despite a 40-38 win in a fixture cut short after 13 races due to the track curfew, the Hammers crashed out of the Knockout Cup as they were unable to overturn a 14-point deficit in the second meeting.
Team Manager Will Pottinger said: “It was a fairly pleasing night overall to be honest.
“Firstly it was good to build up a handy lead to take to Peterborough in the Championship Shield and I thought we rode well as a group.
“The deficit we needed to make up in the Knockout Cup was always going to be tough but we gave it our best and we showed glimpses of potentially pulling it back along the way.
“But we have to move on from that now and focus on the Shield on Sunday and then the play-offs next weekend.
“Everybody contributed over the two meetings but for me Alfie Bowtell rode brilliantly down at reserve.
“Kyle (Newman) did okay in his first meetings back from injury and it was just a shame bike problems affected the whole of his second fixture.”
A full preview to Sunday’s Championship Shield semi-final second leg at Peterborough will be issued on the morning of the meeting.

Championship Shield 2nd Leg Preview Lakeside are looking to book their place in the Championship Shield Final when they travel to Peterborough later (Sunday, 5pm).
The Hammers head to the East of England Arena with a 10-point advantage following their 50-40 first leg win over the Panthers on Saturday.
But they’ll be without Ben Morley and Alfie Bowtell who are competing in the National League Riders’ Championship at Leicester.
Team Manager Will Pottinger explained: “With those two representing the Isle of Wight in the NLRC earlier in the day it left us with a bit of a dilemma.
“That is scheduled for a 1pm start but there was too much risk including them in our line-up.
“Even if everything was to run smoothly, that’s probably not going to finish until 3pm then the meeting at Peterborough gets underway at 5pm and it’s just asking way too much of both riders.
“But as well you never know what could happen machinery wise, injury wise, incident wise so we felt we needed to be safe rather than sorry in such an important meeting.
“Just imagine if we’d have included them, something happens at the NLRC and we ended up running a five-man team at Peterborough!
“So in Josh Pickering, Kasper Andersen and Jason Edwards, we feel we’ve booked three very useful guests as we aim to defend our 10-point lead.
“We know we’ve got the riders to put in a good performance at Peterborough and hopefully we can reach our first final of the season.”
Peterborough Panthers:
Thomas Jorgensen, Bradley Wilson-Dean R/R, Emil Grondal, Ulrich Ostergaard, Michael Palm Toft, Carl Wilkinson, Simon Lambert.
Lakeside Hammers:
Richard Lawson, Josh Pickering, Adam Ellis, Kyle Newman, Nick Morris, Kasper Andersen, Jason Edwards.

Championship Shield 2nd Leg Meeting Report The Lakeside Hammers are through to the Championship Shield Final after an excellent second leg performance at Peterborough on Sunday.
The Hammers led by ten points from Saturday’s first leg, and their defence of that margin was virtually impeccable, with a narrow 46-44 reverse on the night easily enough for them to progress.
Heat-leaders Richard Lawson, Nick Morris and Adam Ellis were all multiple race winners as the Panthers were never allowed to build up a head of steam, and guest Josh Pickering also played an important part with paid-10.
Hammers suffered an early setback when guest reserve Kasper Andersen crashed heavily when holding a clear lead in Heat 2, and that effectively ended his contribution. But the awarded 5-1 to the Panthers was turned around by Lawson and guest Pickering in Heat 5 to level the scores on the night.
A decision went against Kyle Newman in Heat 7 when his last-ditch bid to pass Carl Wilkinson for third place was deemed to have fallen short – but Pickering then pulled off a stunning ride in Heat 8 to go from third to first, getting past Simon Lambert on the inside before reeling in and then rounding Ulrich Ostergaard on the last lap.
Youngster Jason Edwards held a key third place in Heat 9 before home man Emil Grondal came to grief when trying to pass, and that helped Hammers to move into a 12-point aggregate lead going into the final third of the meeting.
An hour-long delay followed Heat 11 due to the failure of the floodlights on the back straight with temporary lighting brought in to complete the meeting.
Peterborough went ahead on the night with a 5-1 in Heat 12 but Lawson then superbly kept Michael Palm Toft at bay to put Lakeside on the brink of progression, and Newman sealed it with a well-deserved race win over Ostergaard in Heat 14.
Hammers boss Will Pottinger said: “We put ourselves in a good position on Saturday night by getting a double-figure lead, but we treated the second leg as 0-0 from the start.
“I know it’s a cliché, but we wanted to try to win on the night. We fell just short of that in the end, but we got the job done overall so we’re more than happy.
“It wasn’t straightforward one way or another, with Kasper getting injured and also the floodlight failure, but we put in a really good performance.
“We know we can do well here, so it gives us a good chance of doing well again next week, which is the crucial one in the play-offs – but the Shield is a Final we’re now in, and we’re pleased to be there.
“It was very dark going into the third bend when there was the issue with the lights, and we just wanted a few things tweaked to make sure everything was safe, and we got there in the end.”
Hammers will face Workington in the Championship Shield Final, but before that they have the biggest of aggregate ties with Peterborough next weekend in the play-off semi-final, with the home leg at Hoddesdon on Saturday (7pm).
PETERBOROUGH 46:
Simon Lambert 13+1, Thomas Jorgensen 10+2, Ulrich Ostergaard 8+1, Michael Palm Toft 7+2, Carl Wilkinson 4+3, Emil Grondal 4+1, Bradley Wilson-Dean r/r.
LAKESIDE 44:
Richard Lawson 12+1, Nick Morris 9, Josh Pickering 8+2, Adam Ellis 8+1, Kyle Newman 5, Jason Edwards 2, Kasper Andersen 0.Attachments:

Jubilant Hammers hail fans Lakeside Hammers chief Jon Cook has hailed fans who have turned out in force to support the club in their bid for silverware.
After reaching the Championship Shield Final with a stunning aggregate win over Peterborough, the sides meet again in the Championship Play-offs this weekend.
Hammers host the first leg at their new Rye House base on Saturday (7pm) with the return at the East of England Arena the following day (5pm).
Said a jubilant Cook: “Stuart Douglas (club owner) and I would like to place on record our thanks to the Hammers and Rockets fans who through necessity have had to have two double headers as our introduction to Rye House.
“We thank them for the incredible numbers that have come out in support despite the high admission cost necessary and we are very much looking forward to putting on a more relaxed 'show' over 15 heats this week with normal admission prices and no supplementary charges for our loyal season ticket holders. Roll on Saturday night."
Hammers will now face Workington in the Championship Shield Final – again over two legs.
Cook added: "Congrats to the lads on a job well done, when we switched homes it was to accommodate more fixtures and it's apt that the opponents will be Workington who themselves have had plenty of fixture problems thrown their way."
“It'll be a friendly final off track given the bond between both club riders that occurred in the aftermath of Dan Bewley's horrendous accident and meeting abandonment but on track it'll be fierce stuff."
“But this Saturday it's Groundhog Day again as Peterborough's choice to make the most of our lack of home track advantage means a third successive visit, not good for business unless you reach a Cup Final which of course we have."
“And as good as they are at Rye House we are rather enjoying our trips to Peterborough too!” Attachments:

Hammers back to full strength. Play-Off Semi-Final Preview Lakeside will be back at full strength for their crucial Championship play-off semi-final clashes with Peterborough this weekend. The Hammers host the Panthers in the first leg at Rye House on Saturday (7pm) with the return at the East of England Arena on Sunday (October 7, 5pm). And they’ve been boosted by the news that former British Under-19 Champion Zach Wajtknecht has recovered from a back problem which has kept him out of action in recent weeks. The Hammers also welcome Ben Morley and Alfie Bowtell back to their side – who claimed the top two places in the National League Riders’ Championship last Sunday. And after defeating Peterborough last weekend to reach the final of the Championship Shield, the Hammers are in good spirits. “One way or another we’ve been without key riders over the last few weeks and months,” team manager Will Pottinger said. “But now Zach is ready to race again we’re back at full strength and that makes us a really dangerous outfit to come up against. “These are the meetings we’ve worked hard all season long for and now we must perform over two meetings in two days to earn a place in the final.” Lakeside Hammers: Richard Lawson, Zach Wajtknecht, Adam Ellis, Kyle Newman, Nick Morris, Ben Morley, Alfie Bowtell. Peterborough Panthers: Nico Covatti (G) Bradley Wilson-Dean R/R, Emil Grondal, Ulrich Ostergaard, Michael Palm Toft, Jordan Stewart, Simon Lambert.

Panthers v Hammers. Play-Off Semi-Final 1st leg Preview
Lakeside Head to Peterborough later today (Sunday, 5pm) for what is now the first leg of their Championship Play-Off Semi-Final clash.
The sides were due to meet at Rye House on Saturday, but poor weather saw the Hoddesdon meeting pushed back until next Sunday (October 14, 2pm).
In-form Hammers reserve Alfie Bowtell said: “It’s good to be back at full strength for the play-offs and as we all seem to have been saying lately, I think that could be really important for us.
“We’ve always been confident that we could put Peterborough under some pressure, and the boys have definitely given them plenty to think about now after knocking them out of the Shield last weekend.”
The new averages for October sees Zach Wajtknecht return to the main body of the team at number 2, with new National League Riders Champion Ben Morley switching to reserve.
For the Panthers, Steve Worrall comes in as a guest for injured Number 1 Scott Nicholls, Jordan Stewart comes in for Tom Bacon, whilst Rider Replacement operates for the injured Bradley Wilson-Dean.
Teams:
Peterborough Panthers:
Steve Worrall, Bradley Wilson-Dean r/r, Emil Grondal, Ulrich Ostergaard, Michael Palm Toft, Jordan Stewart, Simon Lambert.
Lakeside Hammers:
Richard Lawson, Zach Wajtknecht, Adam Ellis, Kyle Newman, Nick Morris Ben Morley, Alfie Bowtell
