Comets V Hammers Postponed
Lakeside’s vital double header clash at Workington was rained-off. Persistent heavy drizzle, which wasn’t forecasted, consistently got worse as the day went on.
Hammers boss Will Pottinger admitted: “It’s obviously very frustrating.
“Workington and ourselves are now trying to work out suitable dates for what is now becoming a hectic last 10 days of the season.
“The only consolation is that we have a bit more time to prepare for tomorrow night’s massive home Play-Off semi-final second leg against Peterborough.”

Hammers v Panthers Semi-Final 2nd Leg Preview
Lakeside boss Will Pottinger has warned his team about the “unknown quantity” patch-up Peterborough side for their crunch Play-Off semi-final decider.
The Hammers lead the tie by two points after winning at the East of England Showground in the first leg with the second leg at Hoddeson tonight at 6pm.
Panthers have a side that reads like the credits of TV show Casualty with five out injured. However they have assembled a very decent team of guests who are potentially a big threat to Hammers’ final dreams.
Pottinger said: “We’ve got to be on top form against Peterborough. They have strengthened up with their guests so it’s going to be a very tough match.
“They are a bit of an unknown quantity with such a patched-up team which means we have to be on our guard.
“We certainly won’t be complacent. We have a small lead but our form at Rye House hasn’t been anything like it was at Lakeside. So we can’t take anything for granted.
“I’m hoping that having ridden on Friday night at Rye that the boys will start to get dialled in more so it feels like a proper home track.
“A couple of the boys have been struggling a bit since the switch to Rye and we need them to find a set-up and scoring points“
“We’ve got to go up a gear over the next week. We have the potential to make another final and we must take this opportunity.
“This is when we have to produce. We have a really good team and we have leaders out there who can spearhead the side.
“We believe we are good enough, we’ve just got to do the business on the night.
“Alfie Bowtell, Ben Morley and Zach Wajtknecht are working very hard to bring in the points and they’ve shown that they can. If we find our A game we’ll be in a good position.
“Perhaps the biggest boost will be if we can qualify. That will lift all the boys for the finals still to come.”
Lakeside

Lakeside Hammers Statement
Lakeside Hammers firstly express their sincere apologies to all the fans who were affected by Sunday's floodlight failure in the meeting between the Hammers & the Peterborough Panthers.
As notified to the BSPA (British Speedway Promoters Association) last week, we only have two days left available to us from the Rye House stadium owners (being next Saturday & Sunday) to complete the 2018 season.
We will therefore leave the decision of the result from tonight’s meeting in the hands of the BSPA and the Speedway Control Board on how to conclude the Play-Off season.
Once again we express our apologies for the issues caused by the lighting and thank fans for their patience whilst we tried to rectify the problem.

Hammers must race again
Lakeside and Peterborough’s Championship Play-Off semi-final second leg will be restaged after consideration by the BSPA and Speedway Control Bureau. Following discussions with Rye House, Lakeside have confirmed this meeting will take place at Hoddesdon this Wednesday, October 24 at 7.30pm. Agreement has also been reached with Workington that should the Hammers go through to the final, then the home leg will be at Rye House this Saturday, October 27 at 7.30pm. Hammers boss Jon Cook said: "Naturally we have to respect the decision. We can go on apologising for the floodlight failure, which was deeply regrettable and beyond our control. “We have sought assurances from Rye House regarding Wednesday and the stadium will be ready. “We urge our fans to get right behind us and cheer on the boys on Wednesday night. There’s still a league title on the line.” *Lakeside would like to pass on their sincere thanks to Martin Dugard and family for making Arlington Stadium available if needed.

Hammers v Panthers Meeting Preview
Lakeside re-stage their Play-Off Semi-Final against Peterborough at Rye House on Wednesday (7.30pm).
The Hammers were 22-points up on aggregate on Sunday, before a floodlight failure ahead of heat 9 caused the fixture to be abandoned.
With the visitors still mathematically able to catch Lakeside at the time of the cancellation, the BSPA and SCB ordered the fixture to be re-staged.
And while Hammers skipper Richard Lawson admits it’s more than frustrating, he also says there’s no reason why they can’t deliver a similar performance.
“We weren’t just comfortable we were in complete control at that point on Sunday,” Lawson said.
“But as frustrating as it is we just have to get on with things because it is what it is.
If we ride how we know we can, and even just how we were on Sunday, then we’re confident we can still make it through to the final”
“We’ve got a two-point lead from the first leg and we just need everyone to chip in with as many points as they can.”
Gates open at 6.30pm.

Hammers ready to object
Lakeside will object to the surprise inclusion of Danish ace Ulrich Ostergaard in the Peterborough team for Wednesday night’s crucial Championship Play-Off semi-final second leg re-staging at Rye House (7.30). Panthers have named Ostergaard in their side despite the him stating on social media at the weekend that he was absent from the first staging at Hoddesdon on Sunday through sickness. That usually attains a seven-day ban for a non-speedway related illness. But the Hammers have been told that as Sunday’s meeting was abandoned it's deemed not to have taken place and therefore he can ride. Hammers lead by two going into the meeting. Hammers boss Jon Cook stated: “We have objected using the example of the previous application of the rule with regards to Richard Lawson who fell ill on August 25 and missed that night’s meeting at Workington which was abandoned after two heats, therefore deemed not to have taken place. “However Lawson was still banned for the following night’s visit to Newcastle and a subsequent meeting for Somerset within the seven-day time frame. Clearly there can only be one application of a rule.” Lakeside Hammers: Richard Lawson, Zach Wajtknecht, Adam Ellis, Kyle Newman, Nick Morris, Ben Morley, Alfie Bowtell.

PETERBOROUGH MEDIA INFORMATION WEBSITE: Peterborough have been forced into a further change ahead of tonight’s re-arranged play-off semi-final at Rye House. The T.Balfe Construction Panthers have been informed they now cannot track Danish star Ulrich Ostergaard - despite being previously told they could. Ostergaard missed last Sunday’s abandoned clash with Lakeside due to illness, which carries a seven-day suspension according to SCB regulations. Panthers sought confirmation of their view that the meeting would be deemed not to have taken place, thus making Ostergaard eligible for tonight. A previous incident this season has been cited by their opponents, whose captain Richard Lawson served a seven-day suspension after missing a trip to Workington which was abandoned after two races. Panthers have secured Theo Pijper at very short notice to replace Ostergaard. Club owner Ged Rathbone said: “We did this the right way and after speaking to Ulrich to establish his fitness, we asked the question on Monday over whether he could ride tonight, and we had an email from the SCB to say ‘that’s fine.’ “Then at 8.24pm last night we received another email to say he can’t ride, and that the decision is final. “That put us in a terrible situation and after spending until midnight contacting almost every Championship rider, none of whom wanted to do it, it looked like we would have to use a National League rider tonight. “There were literally three riders we were waiting to hear back from, and we are grateful to Theo who took the booking in mid-morning and agreed to drive straight down from Scotland to ride for us. “Needless to say it’s another frustrating and expensive episode, and one which really shouldn’t have happened.”

Lakeside Hammer way into Final Lakeside team boss Will Pottinger admits it’s a relief they can now “focus everything” on title glory after cruising into the Championship Play-Off final.
The Hammers crushed a patched-up Peterborough side 56-34 with a 24-point aggregate success at Hoddesdon to go through to this weekend’s final against Workington.
It wasn’t completely plain sailing for the home side as the plucky Panthers kept the scores tight until a 5-1 in Heat 7 from Nick Morris and the excellent Ben Morley saw them finally pull clear.
Pottinger admitted: “It’s a relief to have finally made it through. It’s been a tough few days for the club but it’s good we can finally focus everything on the final.
“It’s going to be a massive weekend for Lakeside. It’s been a rollercoaster year that we could never have envisaged.
“But right from the start when promoter Jon Cook assembled this team I felt it was good enough to go all the way.
“Now we have and now we want to win it naturally. We will enjoy tonight and then from tomorrow it’s all about preparing for the final.”
The Hammers was delighted with Morley’s paid 13 from reserve and there were also vital contributions from Zach Wajknecht and Alfie Bowtell.
He added: “Strangely enough having another meeting has helped us get a few extra laps in around Rye House. That might help us in the long run.
“It showed tonight that our top three are winning races for fun. We just need the other boys to chip in a bit and we will be there or thereabouts winning the title.
“Workington will be a different proposition, we know that. They are a very solid side but I believe we are good enough.
“We have a bit more experience in the side and a lot of spirit. Nick Morris and Kyle Newman have won so many league titles and been in so many Play-Off finals, they know what it’s all about.
“Richard Lawson is also very experienced and solid on the big occasion. The boys are up for it and will be giving it everything, that’s for sure.”
Hammers were never likely to lose a grip on the semi-final after going into that 10-point lead after Heat 7.
In fairness to the depleted Panthers, they kept up the fight. But Morris and Lawson finally put the home side through to the final with a 5-1 in Heat 13 - the Australian producing a very slick unbeaten four rides to anchor the win.
Lakeside 56
Ben Morley 12+1, Nick Morris 12, Adam Ellis 12, Richard Lawson 10+2, Zach Wajtknecht 5, Alfie Bowtell 3+1, Kyle Newman 2.
Peterborough 34
Emil Grondal 9, Ashley Morris 7, Thomas Jorgensen 5+1, Theo Pijper 5+1, Carl Wilkinson 4+2, Simon Lambert 4+2. Attachments:

I have seen a figure of 250 'guesstimated' mentioned on the 'famed BSF' as the spectator attendance for Wednesday October 24 Lakeside v Peterborough match. If correct, very worrying indeed.
