Tragic when one thinks of all the good and great riders who have become so through their training at this track. Another piece of history lost. Somewhere you mentioned that 29 London tracks had gone, not sure we will see even one back.

Somewhere you mentioned that 29 London tracks had gone, not sure we will see even one back. I am sure that sadly you are correct. And slightly off key perhaps how many of these tracks at different times also staged oval circuit car racing? For me Wimbledon, West Ham, Walthamstow and Harringay spring to mind. Were there others? I doubt very much if London will ever again host a track for motorsport.

Does any member have news of the latest 'redevelopment' work at Rye House and how far the laying of the five-a-side football pitches has progressed?

I have just made a visit to the 'dreaded' British Speedway Forum. A poster is leading a campaign to halt the current changeover work taking place at Rye House. He has had some response but I doubt any of it is from people living in the locality. The BSF poster appears to be making Rye House some sort of shrine that must not be allowed to disappear AS A SPEEDWAY. Of course it is sad when we lose a track. But trying to save one where the majority of its supporters were not local looks a pointless venture to me. ANY OPINIONS ON THIS?

This update re Rye House has appeared on the BSF - pity they didn't get as many attending meetings as seemingly want to save the place IMO! "...Just signed.: There has been over 1,600 signatures so far, the majority objecting with only a few hundred in support. Would be good if we could get over 1,500 or more objections. It's especially annoying that the new owners can start digging up the track before they've even got their planning permission passed (hopefully to be refused) total arrogance..."

The latest Post re Rye House on the British Speedway Forum: On 12/1/2021 city rebel was asked: If successful, will the new owner be forced to reinstate the speedway track. THE REPLY BY cityrebel: I can't see how. I guess if there's enough objections they might not be allowed to put football pitches there but that won't bring Speedway back. It might be that the landowners could force them to reinstate the track but I'd have thought that was between the freeholder and the leaseholder, nothing to do with the council.

Forum Posts indicate something of a mystery in regard to what's happening at Rye House. Big joke it seems is that there are more people who want to save the place than actually attended meetings in its terminal seasons!
