In 1929, the championship was decided by a series of match races which took place at various tracks. Between 1930-1933, the championship was a series of match races in an eight heat competition at Wembley. It extended to nine heats in 1934. The 1935 season was the first with the 'traditional' 16 riders competing over 20 heats.

I think Maurice Jones died a few years back. He issued books about the League Tables with team photos and a section showing team photos of various teams. His World Final book covers Star, World & British Finals from 1929 till 1994, the last of the real Finals,,,,,,,,The Speedway Championship World Final - Maurice Jones Speedway Surveys, 63 Bradgate Rd., Markfield, Leicester. (The book lists riders by Country, not Teams) (John Chaplin also did a book on World Finals but his book missed out one final from what I remember) I have got JCs book somewhere in the loft

Off the BRITISH SPEEDWAY FIRUM today::: :::::::: Does anyone know the actual dates of the two finals ? I believe the Home Riders Final was held @ Wimbledon on 21/10/1929 , but not 100% certain. The Overseas Final was held @ Harringay between Frank Arthur & Vic Huxley, probably prior to 3rd October, but I cannot find the actual meeting dates.
