'THE BIG THRILL' history book
'THE BIG THRILL' by Allan Batt. The history of Palmerston North, New Zealand. It is one of the worlds longest running Speedways, having opened on Boxing day, 1930 and while the heroes that now race on the Palmerston North Showgrounds track in New Zealand drive Stock Cars, there was a time that the gladiators raced Speedway bikes, in fact Motor Cycles were king right through to 1964 when promoter Ray New introduced Stock Cars. 'The Big Thrill', an 80 page publication covers the years 1930 to 1969 and it focuses primarily on the Solos, TQ Midgets and Midget cars. Follow the exploits of legendary figures like Lionel Van Praag, Tom Farndon, Squib Burton, Putt Mossman, Ken Le Breton, Gil Craven and Mal Craven and track the early careers of 'hometown heroes' Jack Hart, Bill Andrew, Bruce Cribb and Peter Pollett. There are over 90 photos in Allan Batt's latest Speedway publication
