On another site I have read a suggestion that former Wimbledon fans might like to start supporting the new Sittingbourne side in 2013.
Meetings will be on Mondays with a 6.30pm start time and a meeting curfew of 8.30pm.
I did an estimate of what would be involved for me: The cost from near Crystal Palace would be about £20 in fares - return buses £4 plus return rail fare from Bromley South of currently £13.70 but increasing from January 2013. So an estimate of just getting there would be £20. A start time for the track of about 4.30pm and possibly back in Crystal Palace about 10.30pm.
Add to that a possible admission fee of around £12 (my estimate) and you start looking at nearly £35 to just watch a National League meeting.
Additionally there are time considerations with the Crystal Palace bus journey at least 30 minutes, then just under the hour between Bromley South and Sittingbourne. Add to that time needed to wait for buses and trains means a one-way journey of at least two hours, which totals with the return nearly four hours. Take into consideration the two hours estimate for the meeting and what do you face: an overall time factor of at least six hours and £35 expenses to just watch National League racing...basically last season's Rye House Raiders on parade.
Sadly, not for me. And a further thought - would it be possible for people working in London and finishing at 5.30pm to make Sittingbourne in time.
So far as I can see, Sittingbourne's hopes of survival are going to rest on attracting local support, something they will get initially - but sustaining it may prove more difficult. Although we should wish them good luck in their efforts.
If one wants London area track, Lakeside and Rye House are far better propositions to get to - but again costing about the same in time and money.
