Cyril had been in Speedway for some considerable time. I know he rode for Stamford Bridge, Southampton & Harringay pre-war then Norwich for a short time in 1939 but there was also a Cyril Anderson from Australia who might well have been the one at S B in fact. After the war Cyril rode for West Ham & Bristol before joining Norwich in mid-1947 where he lost his life following a crash involving himself & Paddy Hammond where P H could not avoid Cyril who fell in front of him in a Best Pairs Open Meeting. Cyril had served as a Bomb Disposal worker during the War and I read somewhere that he had been blown up and disabled during that time. ANY INFO about this welcomed.

I also read somewhere that there were two Cyril Andersons. The one mentioned in detail here and an Australian rider with the same name. Didn't the English Cyril Anderson also ride at Crystal Palace at some time?

I have a feeling the English Cyril Anderson rode for Palace just before he joined Norwich in 1939 but it probably didnt register much as C P withdrew just after they had visited us

Cyril Anderson was 39 years old when he met with his fatal accident at Norwich in 1947.

Mrs Anderson & her daughter used to come to Norwich in the late 40s and present the Cyril Anderson Memorial Trophy when it was run in the second half over 2 heats & a Final for a time during the years when Richard (D) Wise and then Major Fred Evans had the top job here at the Firs Stadium, Norwich. My matches, rides & points scored do not come up with any great totals for Cyril at present but I have not really done much by way of research into his results as yet, over the years.
