The club has also merged the Rockets’ and Raiders’ websites into a single combined site – accessed viawww.ryehouserockets.co – in order to ensure a focused branding message and communications platform.
Away from these off-track changes, the Raiders remain very much in the hunt for honours as they bid to conclude 2015 on a real high. In addition to their forthcoming National Trophy Final against Eastbourne, Sunday’s away victory at Buxton in the City Gearboxes National League has put them back into strong contention for the top four finish that would see their season further extended through the Gold Cup play-offs.
The Raiders’ success in Derbyshire Hi Edge was thanks to a remarkable late come-back in increasingly wet conditions, as the side fought back from 30-24 down at Heat 9 to ultimately triumph 48-42. Rob Branford completed a faultless five ride paid maximum, with excellent support coming from both Kyle Hughes (11+1) and Luke Priest (11), and the rest of the side all chipping in with vital points.
The team’s next destination is King’s Lynn this Friday, and they will clearly be aiming to take something away from a Young Stars team that is currently at the wrong end of the table and which they have already beaten 54-38 in Hertfordshire.
From there, the Raiders switch their attention back to home shale the following evening, when 2013 and 2014 League Champions Cradley come to town. With away wins to date against fierce rivals Birmingham, Stoke and Kent, the Heathens retain an outside chance of catching the Brummies at the top of the table to complete what would be a unique hat-trick of titles.

Raiders Edged Out by Heathens The Restart Raiders missed the chance to cement their claim to a Gold Cup place when they were edged out 49-41 by third placed Cradley at Perry Barr Stadium. The Raiders remain fourth in the table, with further pivotal away fixtures at both Coventry (Friday) and Mildenhall (Sunday) scheduled over the next few days. The Hertfordshire side actually led 22-20 at Heat 7, but Rob Branford’s blown engine while chasing down Matt Williamson for the lead in Heat 11 was to prove decisive in terms of their hopes of securing at least a consolation match point. Rye still had a chance of achieving that goal with a 4-2 in the nominated heat, but Max Clegg had other ideas and headed home Branford and Kyle Hughes, who withstood heavy pressure from Ellis Perks until the Heathen fell on the last lap, for the 3-3. Branford topped the Raiders’ score-chart thanks to wins in his other three rides, while Hughes provided chief support with two victories and 11 paid points, and Luke Chessell contributed the Raiders’ sixth race success as part of a 7+1 haul. Speaking at Perry Barr afterwards, Rye House team manager John Sampford emphasised that “Rob’s stoppage undoubtedly cost us a match point; we would have taken a 4-2 or at worst a 3-3 from that race, but it worked out as a 4-2 against. “We thought we had another chance when Ellis Perks broke the tapes in Heat 15, but by then it was all about who gated, and Max Clegg did just that in the re-run. But the drive for the Gold Cup is a long, long way from over. Co-promoter Len Silver concurred, adding, “All the boys showed a lot of determination tonight. They all tried their best, and you can’t ask for more than that. In fairness, we didn’t deserve to win, but we certainly deserved a consolation point.” There was at least some consolation for Rye of a different kind, because following the fixture, Rob Branford outpaced Max Clegg to become the new holder of the Bronze Helmet match race title. Our congratulations to him on that success. Rye House scorers: Robert Branford 11, Kyle Hughes 10+1, Luke Chessell 7+1, Alfie Bowtell 4, Luke Priest 4, Sam Woods 3, George Hunter 2+1 Cradley scorers: Ellis Perks 14, Arron Mogridge 9+3, Michael Neale 9+1, Max Clegg 8, Matt Williamson 7, Luke Harris 2, Nathan Greaves R/R Match Points: Cradley 3 Rye House 0 Maassen Set to Return Danny Maassen has declared himself fit to ride in the Restart Rockets’ Travel Plus Tours Knock-Out Cup Semi-Final at Somerset on Friday. The German suffered a shoulder injury and broken thumb in a fall at Berwick last Saturday, but has been seeking specialist treatment. The Rockets will operate Rider-Replacement for Luke Bowen (calf and ankle injuries), with former Rebel Tom Perry named as guest cover for Daniel Greenwood. The guest for Greenwood for the return leg at Rye House on Saturday night – which will kick-off with the Rockets-Plymouth Premier League match at 6pm – is Ben Morley, with Danny Ayres named as the Rockets’ No.8.

Rain Stops Play The Restart Raiders’ City Gearboxes National League fixture at Coventry tonight was abandoned due to rain, with the score at 32-19 in the Storm’s favour. With only eight races completed, however – two shy of the cut-off for a declared outcome – the result does not stand. Rob Branford was the Raiders’ lone race winner, winning both his outings – one for double points off a Tactical ride – as conditions worsened after the rain arrived at Heat 3. With the cut-off for Gold Cup qualification scheduled for Sunday, the abandonment means that the Raiders lead the Storm by two match points heading into that day’s matches. Coventry host Cradley, while Rye head to bottom club Mildenhall knowing that a consolation match point could well be – and a draw certainly will be – enough to clinch fourth spot ahead of the cut-off. Rye House scorers: Rob Branford 6 (inc 6 as a TR), George Hunter 3, Kyle Hughes 3, Luke Chessell 2, Alfie Bowtell 1+1, Luke Priest 1, Sam Woods 0 Coventry scorers: Rob Shuttleworth 7+1, Martin Knuckey 6, Daniel Halsey 4+1, Mark Baseby 4+1, Darryl Ritchings 4+1, Conor Dwyer 4, Jamie Halder 3+1

Raiders Make Final Four!
The Restart Raiders were edged out 46-44 at Mildenhall in the City Gearboxes National League this afternoon, but still made the cut-off for the end of season Gold Cup.
The consolation match point from their narrow defeat at west Row took the Raiders’ total to 27 as of tonight’s cut-off date for qualification, leaving them fourth on race points difference ahead of Coventry (+40 as opposed to the Storm’s -15). They will now meet Eastbourne in their two leg semi-final tie, with the other tie seeing new Champions Birmingham battle fellow Perry Barr tenants Cradley.
Although missing key driver Rob Branford, who was committed to Premier League level action with Edinburgh, the Raiders kept the score close throughout – and even led briefly at 40-38, with just two races remaining.
The Fen Tigers immediately hit back with a 5-1 in Heat 14, with Luke Chessell taking a tumble in a last gasp effort to pass Connor Coles for victory. Rye were still close to pulling off a draw in the finale, but Kyle Hughes just missed out in a ding-dong battle with Danny Halsey at the front, which nullified Luke Priest’s last lap pass of Coles for third spot .
Hughes and Halsey then met in the Bronze Helmet, with the Mildenhall man just edging his rival after a pulsating four laps.
The bottom line, however, is that the Raiders will see post-season play alongside their already earmarked National Trophy Final against Eastbourne next weekend. The first leg of that Trophy tie will be in Hoddesdon on Saturday (7pm start), with the return set for Arlington the following afternoon.
Rye House scorers:
Kyle Hughes 12, Luke Priest 9+3, Alfie Bowtell 6+1, Luke Chessell 6, Sam Woods 4+3, Sam Chapman (guest) 4, George Hunter 3+1
Mildenhall scorers:
Dan Halsey 13+1, Connor Coles 11+1, Tom Bacon 8, Connor Mountain 8, Luke Ruddick 4+1, Jez Pestell 2+1. Jack Kingston R/R
Match Points: Mildenhall 3 Rye House 1

Raiders vs Eastbourne: Now Gold Cup Following the Restart Raiders’ top four qualification yesterday, this Saturday’s home fixture against Eastbourne, as well as the following afternoon’s return leg, have now been switched to be in the Semi-Finals of the Gold Cup in order to facilitate the progress of this end of season competition. Newly crowned City Gearboxes National League Champions Birmingham will meet Cradley in the other Semi-Final, with the two aggregate winners then going head to head over two legs to decide the trophy. As in all knock-out ties this season, the Tactical Ride facility will not apply to matches. The originally scheduled National Trophy Final between the Raiders and the Eagles will now take place on successive days, on Saturday, October 3rd (Rye House leg) and Sunday the 4th (Eastbourne leg).
