It is sad to reflect that it's now some 15 years since speedway last took place in London - at the now demolished Wimbledon Stadium. More 'heart breaking to also consider that the roar of speedway bikes will in all likelihood never again be heard in the capital.

Very sad indeed and I agree with your thoughts on the future. I was a regular at West Ham and Hackney but also at Romford although that was Greater London but with all the old stadia gone, there seems to be little chance of any ground being made available to build a track. Most land seems to go to property developers and whilst I want to see more affordable housing I am sure a track could be built for multi-use. It would appear also that Speedway has been affected by the decline in greyhound racing where the inner field was converted for Speedway. There also appears to be no inclination by promoters to look at London and who can blame them with the high cost. I suspect you could find land here in Wickford, Essex - not London but would be good for me :-)

The comments you make are deserving speedwayisking. It's sad to reflect that these worthy ideas are coinciidng with sad happenings and the apparent loss of the track at Rye House.
