Any views on who was the best of West Ham's three great Australian riders - Bluey Wilkinson, Aub Lawson or Jack Young? I know they rode in different eras but there must be a way to make comparisons.

They were all really great during their time in speedway. I think Aub tops the list as he was in the team when speedway was re-establishing itself in the 40s after Hitler had been finished off. Unfortunately Aub never was World Champion, but I can well remember him coming 3rd after he joined the Stars at Norwich and became skipper of the team. Bluey won the title pre-war and Jack won it twice afterwards, but Aub was robbed as he might well have done it in 1939 but that one was never run as we all know.

Wasn't Cordy Milne of USA and Hackney the favourite for the 1939 world title?

Cordy with 8 bonus points led the qualifiers with Aub on 4 at the bottom of the list. As Aub was only 4 behind I consider he was in with a good chance of getting up in the Final. It was at the track where he was riding - Wembley, he had been quite a surprise since coming to the U K for the first time and favorites are there to be beat. (And Aub was the bloke to beat him) Well I know I am being biased
