Their Swedish rider Thomas H Jonasson will also miss the meeting as he will be riding in the Grand Prix Challenge Final, which takes place at Poole on Saturday. Monday, September 16, 2013:: ::::: The Vortex Hammers have confirmed that Seb Ulamek returns to the team for Monday nights crucial away fixture against the Swindon Robins. After five weeks out with a broken collarbone and 5 broken ribs, the Polish racer showed his return to both fitness and form tonight by taking second place in the 3rd round of the Speedway European Championship in Gorican, Croatia. On what will be a busy night in the Elite League, Cameron Woodward will deputise for injured Hammer Peter Karlsson, whilst at reserve Berwick Bandits rider Matthew Wethers comes in for Hammers reserve Richard Lawson who is riding for his Premier League team Workington. I really enjoyed last year, the fans are great and I can't wait to get cracking again in March". The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook said: "Lewis (Bridger) is an entertainer and that's the business we are in. He has so much untapped potential and we will be working hard with him to take the next step forward in his career building on a very promising debut year." THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Friday 6th December 2013 PK AND WATTY MAKE IT SEVEN
The Vortex Lakeside Hammers will welcome back heat leader duo Peter Karlsson and Davey Watt for a third year with the Club as they complete their 2014 team building plans and start off track preparations for the March 28th start to a new season. PK and Watty join new signing Mikkel Bech, the returning Lewis Bridger and Richard Lawson alongside ‘Fast Track’ Brits Adam Ellis and Southend lad Ben Morley. Co Promoter Jon Cook commented: "Both PK & Watty have made it clear they wanted to remain Hammers and with the League a very different set up to last year we felt it crucial to have recognised heat leaders at the top of the team with the experience needed not only to score points regularly but to bring the best out of the youngsters in the side. That’s clearly a forte of both and we feel we have an excellent mix for 2014. I would like to place of record my thanks to Piotr Swiderski, who we have had to leave out with the change in team criteria. Piotr is a first class chap and it was a difficult call to make to him". Coming back to the year ahead and the returning duo Cook concluded: “Both PK & Davey provide fantastic entertainment out on the track and with the rest of the lads in the team we are looking forward to promoting a ‘Summer of Excitement’ for our loyal and ever growing Hammers faithful."

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Thursday 16th January 2014 LAWSON JOINS THE VORTEX HAMMERS ON A PERMANENT DEAL
The Vortex Hammers have agreed a deal with Workington that will see ‘Rider of the Year’ Richard Lawson join the Club on a permanent deal. The Cumbrian club retain a buy back clause by agreement of all three parties. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook commented: "Richard is a crucial part of our team for 2014 and this move shows our commitment to working with him to become an established Elite League rider in the years ahead. It makes sense for us both to know that those efforts come with the security for Richard of knowing he has a long term future at this Club and for us that it reaps the benefits of his development. He has a great affection for the Comets and it's appropriate that they should retain an option because of that." The Club are working on details for their opening meeting on March 28th but have now confirmed that the full team will also be riding an away Challenge Match at Poole on March 26th with Press Day scheduled for Tuesday 25th March at the Raceway.

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Friday 17th January 2014 THE VORTEX HAMMERS 2014 FIXTURE LIST RELEASED
The Vortex Hammers fans are in for a packed summer of racing in 2014 as the Fixture List, which has been published today shows. Opening night at the Arena Essex Raceway is Friday 28th March with details to follow before the serious business of the League campaign starts a week later with the first ever visit of the Leicester Lions. Highlights of the List include the traditional Good Friday 1pm visit of rivals Eastbourne and the inclusion of three, or possibly four, Saturday night meetings, which are sure to play to packed houses as they feature the Sport’s two biggest clubs, Coventry (twice), led by Grand Prix star Chris Harris, and Poole, with the Sport’s most popular rider Darcy Ward. These will be raced on Bank Holiday weekends. A fourth Saturday, 5th July, will include World Champion Tai Woffinden and his Wolverhampton team but this meeting may be run twenty four hours earlier as both dates are reserved to cover for the permutations of England's Football team progressing in the World Cup. The Vortex Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook commented: "It's great to offer up a full Fixture List and I am particularly pleased that through the support of the Raceway we have managed to overcome the traffic problems that deter fans from visiting us on Bank Holiday Fridays by switching to Saturdays. These meetings really are the jewel in our crown along with a packed summer holiday of meetings that sees a gap of no more than a fortnight between home meetings. The team can't wait to get cracking."

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Friday 7th February 2014 MOUTHWATERING OPENER FOR THE VORTEX HAMMERS
The Vortex Lakeside Hammers will go straight into home Elite League action on Friday 28th March with their season opener and the opposition couldn't be tougher with the Swindon Robins being the visitors, the only team to win at the Raceway in 2013 when they won on two occasions. The Hammers Co Promoter Jon Cook commented: "What an exciting and risky way to start. The Robins have been dynamite at our place but we believe the 2014 Hammers can kick off our season in style. All of our riders will have been in action as we ride a Challenge at Poole forty eight hours earlier plus we have the track at the Arena Essex Raceway all week for practice and what better way to start the season than with three League points!" Explaining the cancellation of their home Challenge against the Poole Pirates Cook continued: "Once it was clear that Darcy Ward would be racing in an open meeting in Poland it really wasn't an option to take on the Pirates without the most entertaining rider in the World and other challenge opposition really weren't attractive enough to go against Speedway on TV that night. Our first League meeting is, however, a different matter and we will stage an extra meeting of some kind later in the year, possibly during World Cup week, for our supporters." With the clock quickly ticking down to the start of the season the Club will shortly confirm details of the ‘Press and Practice Day’ on Tuesday 25th March, which will follow the now traditional theme of being open house for fans to get behind the scenes and close to the riders.

THE VORTEX LAKESIDE HAMMERS PRESS RELEASE Tuesday 4th March 2014 THE HAMMERS ANNOUNCE LITTLE HAVENS HOSPICE AS THEIR REGIONAL CHARITY FOR 2014
The Lakeside Hammers Community Programme is declaring 2014 as the year “When Every Point Counts!” as we are thrilled to announce that our Regional Charity for this year will be Little Havens Hospice. Little Havens Hospice is set in beautiful woodland near Thundersley, Essex and cares for children with life-limiting conditions, and their families, throughout the journey of their illness. The charity receives limited government funding and is not part of the NHS. Little Havens must, therefore, raise over £50,000 per week to provide the care and services that are required. The new relationship has been formed with the assistance of our friends, and associate sponsors, Skidmarques Ltd (www.skidmarquesltd.com) who are pledging to donate £1 to Little Havens Hospice for EVERY race point that the Hammers score throughout 2014. Skidmarques have also donated their space on the Hammers 2014 race suits, official wear and merchandise to Little Havens Hospice to help maximise awareness of the charity. In addition, and to boost our support for this fantastic cause, The Hammers are inviting all fans and partners to join Skidmarques’ initiative by donating just 1p for every race point that the team score. The club will provide details in the near future about exactly how supporters can make their pledge and join in with #makingeverypointcount. Peter Hall, Community Fundraiser for Little Havens Hospice, said: “On behalf of the children and families we care for, I would like to thank all the riders, staff and supporters of Lakeside Hammers Speedway Team for their support of Little Havens Hospice over the coming racing season. The donations that we receive will be making every day count for local children and families from Thurrock and across the whole county affected by serious illness. We don’t charge a penny for our care and this is only made possible because of the generosity of the local community. We want to wish Lakeside Hammers every success for a fantastic season and encourage people to come down to roar on the team at their race meetings. The more points the team win will mean more pounds are raised for Little Havens too!" Keith Playell of Skidmarques said: “Speedway is justly proud of its reputation as a family sport, equally I am proud to be part of The Lakeside Hammers’ family. Any family would find it difficult to contemplate the loss of one of their own, that’s why I am asking The Hammers’ family to help support Little Havens Hospice and the wonderful work that they do.” Hammers Community Liaison Manager Mark Sexton spent time at the Hospice recently and was inspired by the world-class standard of care and facilities that he saw. He commented: “The Hammers are very grateful to have the opportunity to support this wonderful charity and we’re determined to do what we can to increase the profile of Little Havens Hospice and to help them raise the funds to ensure that their vital work can carry on.” #makingeverypointcount

The Hammers favourite fended off a star-studded field to step to the top of the rostrum as the 2014 season got off to an exciting start.
