Since my last visit things seem to have changed. I note that sidecars, short track, stock bikes and midget cars have sections for any comments on their part in London speedway racing over the years. I don't know what other members may think but I think it is wrong not to have also put in a place for cycle speedway a sport from which so many graduated to proper motorcycle speedway.

A London area cycle speedway section would be great. It was a really good sport just after the war ended in 1946 and I remember that 'Buster' Brown graduated from push-bikes to riding for Wembley and then Swindon in the 1950s.

A good idea. London was a real hotbed for cycle speedway around 1948 and to 1953. The many bomb sites were ideal for tracks. When redevelopment started on the sites so cycle speedway vanished. Yes a space for the sport on here because there are so many memories about the skidkids.

When will there be a decision about if or not there is to be a cycle speedway section on here?

Yes don't keep us in suspense. There is action among the old skidskids worth preserving. Look at this from White City London in 1967: 1967 Cycle Speedway White City[/img] Attachments:

Is cycle really worthwhile. Shouldn't the concentration be on the already started good works of providing statistical information on speedway-proper?

Posting of facts & figures will continue in the future without doubt but cycle speedway played its part in bringing a number of riders into the sport. I remember Billy Bales among the riders who would ride on the track behind the pits at the Firs Stadium in Norwich. There would be cycle speedway matches before the real thing in them days. Walthamstow Wolves used to bring a team to Norfolk in the late 40s to ride before Wolves met Norwich in a real Speedway match. Later on a prefab was built on the track site and that became the home of Gordon Parkins when he came to run the Firs Stadium. Gordons son Mike was a cycle speedway rider with my Mulbarton team in Norfolk and he became World Champion winning it at Harrison Park, Edinburgh when one of the riders in the final was Edinburgh & Wembley rider Bert Harkins. From memory Bert only scored a few points on the day of the final.
