Does anyone know anything about Austin Humphries, Yorkshire man? He rode for Crystal Palace in 1938 and 1939. Am told he still holds the record for a "cross country" as in "uphill" event in Yorkshire that was closed down as dangerous. He also rode at Belle Vue.

There is some debate about Austin Humphries, generated through this thread, to be found on the oldtimespeedway site (see bottom of reply for the ink - it's in blue).

Many thanks for information already received. Very exciting. Austin was my dad. He died in 1967 before I really understood that he had ridden so much. I came across some old photos and really began to wonder. Unfortunately there is no one left in the family to ask.

Any chance that you can scan and post the photo/s of you dad in this thread? Certainly I think the oldtimespeedway site would like to see them as well.

Hi, Spectator09 , Iam doing some research for someone regarding an Austin Humphries, who was born in Yorkshire, and died in 1967 in southend, when i read your post i wondered if the person i was looking for was your father. I believe his father was named William and connected to a mining disaster in which William lost his life. I would be most grateful if you could advise whether this the same person. regards ros.
