The Birmingham team has just been elevated to the elite league. In 1949 Birmingham were promoted from the Second Division to the First Division. I am reliably informed by an eminent historian that the only reason Birmingham were accepted into the top flight was because the London promotions were desperate to have Birmingham's Blond Bombshell Graham Warren pulling fans through their turnstiles. Really they did not want another non-London club, but as promoter Les Marshall would not let Warren go, and Graham did not want to leave Birmingham, they had to admit Brum to Division One. Does anyone (in London) know anything of this, or know anyone who can shed any light on the suggestion?
