Okay - I know Spedeworth were never good friends of speedway at Wimbledon Stadium, but if they decide to quit Plough Lane (and it could happen if what this petition mentions goes ahead) it could hasten the end for Plough Lane and a last hope of speedway ever appearing there again. I have signed the peitition and I hold no great love for stock cars etc, but this is a matter to try and keep the stadium operating in our long hoped for speedway return there sometime in the future, which can only happen if Plough Lane keeps running. From the Wimbledon Speedway yahoo site:: :::::::: From: "markaston1" <markaston1@...> To: <wimbledonspeedway@...> Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2012 4:47 PM Subject: [wimbledonspeedway] Future of Wimbledon Stadium Some of you may have picked up on the latest news concerning the Irish Consortia that may be purchasing Wimbledon Stadium from Risk Capital Partners www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/9485249.GREYHOUNDS__All_eyes_are_on_Wimbledon_bid/As many of you know Wimbledon Speedway plc did not stop racing at Plough Lane for any other reason other than the refusal of the GRA, after the RCP take over, to allow speedway racing to take place in their stadium. We still have the enthusiasm and capital available to re-start racing at the stadium,or the new stadium if one is built on the exisiting site, provided the new owners are interested in letting speedway take place and we are writing to the head of the proposed consoritum to let them know that this is the case. Interestingly I picked up on an article in the Financial Times recently where Luke Johnson the Chair of RCP where under the heading "There is no sense clinging to a golden age". he talks about selling a venue that in its heyday was a bosisterous place. The full article can be read at www.ft.com/cms/s/0/9fcaa8ec-3ac9-11e1-be4b-00144feabdc0.html#ixzz1k6yxt0vr although you will have to go through a free registration process to read it. For the first time since we got ejected from Plough Lane there is a small and very feint chance that speedway could return to London for the first time in over six years. Lets hope for the best. Ian Perkin

I wonder if there are better qualified people than yours truly who might arrange some final gathering in a bar at the stadium - maybe at a greyhound meeting or staock car meeting, or better still a 'stand alone' night for speedway followers to hold what looks like an end of the road time for Plough Lane stadium.

![]() Motorsport N...10 2012 jpeg[/img] This report in 'Motorsport News' October 10 2012 would indicate that future plans for Wimbledon Stadium will rule out stock car racing and adds to the theory that speedway bikes will never return to Plough Lane. Attachments:

Off the MK Community Website website reference to MK Dons - not AFC Wimbledon: Here is what appears to be an update in regard to Wimbledon Stadium. It's rather wordy but does look as though current suggestion might be no-go? That's if I have read it correctly? www.mkweb.co.uk/mkdons/displayarticle.asp?id=12192

I thought this was a very telling paragraph from the website reference to MK Dons: "All English football stadia built during the last decade have received some kind of assistance from local authorities or quasi-Government agencies. This support has typically taken the form of subsidised land acquisition costs, financial support for cleaning and preparing a site, and assistance with planning applications. Most have also benefited from enabling development on and around the stadium site. No proposal for any of this kind of support has been made available to the Club within Merton or in any of the surrounding Boroughs." NOW - How much is football being bankrolled ? WHY - Can't speedway get similar help? Jim Henry

Wimbledone? David Pickles on the news that one of the sport's greatest venues might disappear forever. This is a story now running on the Speedwayplus website: www.speedwayplus.co.uk/
