What a wonderful site. How on earth did the compilers gather all of the information? They must be a dedicated bunch that deserve thanks from blokes such as me. It was flattering to see my name in a few teams together with some old friends who were well buried in my memory banks. Will rake through my brain and see if any input emerges. One or two missing people and at least one team in the Wembley area are already buzzing around.

For more information visit www.cyclespeedwayhistory.org.uk/news.shtml I have just tried the Link given at the bottom of the teams listing and it is no longer available. I have visited it before and it was packed with information. I think the site's founder passed away some time ago and that may be the reasons for its demise, which is a major loss on background information for devotees of cycle speedway racing.

Dave Huntley, who set up the website, passed away in 2015. The site does seem to have passed on with him.
As you say, a great loss.

Dave Huntley, who set up the website, passed away in 2015. The site does seem to have passed on with him. As you say, a great loss. Robin Richardson The loss of the website is a dreadful happening for cycle speedway not only in London but nationally. There were many photos, vital statistics and much more in regard to cycle speedway history. The word to describe the loss is irreplaceable. It is dreadful news for the sport, although at the same time we must pay belated respects to the late Dave Huntley. I am puzzled as to how a major website can just disappear. Is there not some way to recover it? How did it just collapse on the sad loss of Dave Huntley? Thank you Robin Richardson for your help in this matter.

Hi Gustix, copied below is a copy of "whois" and it refers to a Dave Hunting (not Huntley), states the site was set up on 11th May 2011 and last modified 5th May 2015. The allocation of the web address expires 11th May 2017. All of that seems to tie in with what you state, he passed away early 2015 either he "pulled" the website down off the internet shortly before he died, or someone did it on his behalf. To pull a website down, or modify it, you have to have access to it via security passwords. For example, I have now retired but I have "live" websites because whilst I have notified the people I paid to produce the websites that I have retired, they have not acted on my behalf, and I dont know the access passwords. I may be wrong, but the only ones who could reactivate the site are those who have the access details. Come May 2017, when the registration to Dave Hunting expires the name "cyclespeedwayhistory" will be available to others to register for themselves and do what they wish with the name (not the content).

The above is the text of a message forwarded by Ove Fundin Fan on Monday, July 4, 2016, and currently to be seen in its original format in BRITISH SPEEDWAY FORUM General Discussions as 'Lost Website Cycle Speedway'.

A rather belated query on my part: since the sad loss of David Hunting some years ago, who is now administering the site. And that's not wanted so I can berate the person but to praise the good work that takes place. And another small query: what has happened to once regular poster on here fredthered - and a few others for that matter. BTW it is sad to reflect London now only has one club valiantly carrying on when in the 1940s there was - it appeared that way - a cycle speedway 'every street corner.' I wonder when and how many were the most London cycle speedways?
