Taken from the oldtimespeedway discussion group::: :::::::::::::: This is an email message I have received. My suggestion would be to get the needed information would be to contact the local newspapers, 'The Kentish Times' and 'The Mercury'. While I live in Erith, I have no records of pre-war speedway at Crayford only know about the post-war action there. Here's the email if any member can give ideas either directly on here regarding the 1930s.

My father John Guntrip and his brother Reg raced at Crayford Speedway and Brands Hatch in the 30's. As you live in the area I wondered if you had any information that would help me trace the records. Many Thanks, Ray Guntrip. JACK KEEN, ERITH, KENT

It is a rare action shot of speedway at Crayford in the pre-war years, More information would be appreciated in regard to this little known Kent track on the London borders. Attachments:

It strikes me that you must have members in London who could easily go along to Colindale to research this venue. Jim On 11 June 2012 21:47, LONDON SPEEDWAYS <john.hyam1@..... A rare newspaper photo from the 1930s showing action at Crayford has just been posted on London Speedways. It shows John Guntrip in the lead. I know this is an old thread but I'm currently updating the history of Crayford Speedway on the new website www.crayfordkestrels.co.uk and have been to Colindale on three occasions this year. So far I have been able to compile almost complete records for 1930, 1931 and 1935. !936 is my next visit and I can confirm that there was no racing in 1937 as construction work on the new greyhound stadium had begun earlier in the year. Whilst I will go into more depth on the website there have been some interesting discoveries. A future 3-time winner of the Isle of Man TT was the track record holder in 1930; Team matches were held at Crayford in 1931 between the Bexleyheath & District MCC and other MCC including Sidcup, Darenth & Sittingbourne; A Supporters Club was formed in 1935.
