1930s USA champion Miny Waln failed to settle to British speedway in a brief 1937 spell with Wimbledon. He returned home to retire, then build and race midget cars. This is an early 1930s publicity photo of Waln.Attachments:

Ray Tauser is an under publicised American rider from speedway's pioneer days. He was at Wimbledon in the early days and won the 1931 Star Championship - in status comparable to the World Championship. He also rode in Australia and New Zealand and after being 'forced out' of British speedway in 1932 because of technicalities on foreign riders, continued racing on tracks in Central and East Coast USA until circa 1937. Is more detailed background available on Tauser? I tried Wikipedia without much luck except for a scant reference to his Star Championship success. My source for the Tauser photo is via Tony Webb - with thanks.Attachments:

Cecil Brown rode in open meetings in 1928 and for Wimbledon in 1929. The team squad that season was: WIMBLEDON: Hilary Buchanan, Cec Brown, Sid Chambers, Fred Cooper, Clem Cort, Dudley Cox, Les Dearth, Dank Ewen, Del Forster, Bert Gerrish, Jack Kidwell, John Leete, Fred Osborne, Alf Sawford, Mart Seiffert, Eddie Slade-Jones, Stan Spencer, Jimmy Stevens, Alf Summersby, Rube (Sonny) Wilson plus Jim Kempster and Vic Huxley after Star riders were allowed in. NOTE: Cort, Foster and Spencer also appeared for Harringay.
Before that Brown had raced on dirt tracks in the USA and Australia along with fellow countrymen 'Sprouts' Elder and Eddie Brinck.
In the photo - actual location unknown - Brown is on the right.Attachments:
