In another thread, there has been much discussion and speculation about the Wembley rider Bronco Wilson, who was killed during speedway racing at Harringay. However, Alf Bottoms was another Wembley rider who was killed on the track during the immediate post-war period, albeit while car racing. After trying his hand at speedway with Wembley, he turned his attention to 500 cc car racing. building his own car, a Norton-engined J B S, with the help of his father and brother. He was immediately successful, becoming a formidable challenger to the Cooper cars. On 3 May 1951, while practising for the Grand Prix de Luxembourg, he was killed when he crashed in the last minutes of practise, running at full throttle up an escape road at a hairpin bend and under a parked car. Anyone interested in reading more about Alf's car racing career should log onto the website at www.500race.org, where several articles about him and a selection of photographs can be seen.

That's a great Link re Alf Bottoms car racing career - thanks fredthered. There still seems to be life on here although we haven't seen any speedway in London since the loss of Wimbledon in 2005. I guess fewer and fewer people are now interested in Londnn speedway happening because it last happened nearly 12 years ago. I have seen a Wimbledon group on Facebook but it does not have much happening there from what I can see but I did note the stock cars plan another of their winter seasons for 2016-2017.
