He took a third place in a World Final as his best individual meeting. After a brief spell in retirement Bob made a one season comeback with Norwich Stars then retired again. In the early 60's Bob made a brief comeback in Provincial League circles with Wolverhampton. Bob Oakley's speedway career started as a junior rider at New Cross in 1946, and he then joined Division Three club Southampton in 1947 before transferring to Wembley in the early 1950s.The photo shows Bob Oakley at Southampton in the 1940s.
