From 'Classic Speedway' (No.3 Winter 2008-09):
CELEBRATION OF SPEEDWAY DAY TO REPLACE HIGH BEECH REUNION
PARADISE Wildlife Park in Broxbourne, Herts, is the new venue for the annual reunion that has traditionally been held at High Beech in previous years. A Celebration of Speedway Day will take place at PWP - home to the Speedway Museum - on Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 10am until 4.00pm. The break with tradition won't please everybody but National Speedway Museum and WSRA committee member Pete Saunders makes a valid point when he says: "We felt that High Beech had become a bit stale and that it had run its course. "The switch to PWP makes sense in so many ways," he continued. "There is much more space for both outdoor and indoor displays. "Admission to both the Celebration of Speedway Day AND PWP will be free to all on this special occasion."

I have several queries about a rider named Geoff Bishop.
(1) He is named as being a member of the High Beech team in the late 1920 and early 1930s. Was he Phil Bishop's brother.
(2) A rider named Geoff Bishop rode for Wombwell in NL3 in 1947 and 1948 and also rode for England in South Africa (?). Is it the same Geoff Bishop.

I always heard Phil had a brother George but a Geoff/Jeff wasn't mentioned when these discussions were taking place. The Jeff Bishop who rode at Wombwell with Harwood Pike, Len Tupling & Gerry Williams for the "Colliers" in Division III was I think a Welshman

Jack and Frank Chiswell were two local Esserx lads - they came from nearby Loughton - who rode in the early 1928 meetings at High Beech. They later had spells with Preston. Frank was also a talented footballer who was at one-time on Everton's book. Jack later had involvement in the promotion of both Rye House and Lea Bridge in the early 1930s. Is more known about them?

I have just had a look at this. Nothing like the sport these days - and fans standing on the centre green. The riders are not broadsiding or putting a foot down on the bends. It's a good job that the Australians turned up in 1928 to show us what speedway - or as it was then dirt track racing - was all about. On this youtube viewing as speedway was in February 1928 it does not seem to have much offer. A good job that the Aussie took a firm grip on its early development.
