Alf Bottoms left speedway in 1949 for car racing on the big circuits and became an international racer. He was killed driving in Luxemburg in 1951. Is more known of both his speedway and car racing careers.
A also think Alf and his father - also possibly a brother? - were involved in making speedway bike frames.

That link tells of the sad end of Alf Bottoms. He had done a fair bit in his short time but then that was the way it was in them days
