Besides his pre-war speedway racing, Eddie was also a professional wrestler before taking up speedway and again after the war when he had stopped riding. Does anyone know more about his wrestling career - I believe he was contracted to Dale Martin Promotions in Camberwell, South London.

All I can add is that Dale Martin is a name in the back of my mind but I always thought they controlled most of the wrestlers in the South of England. They may have been in charge of the T V shows as well

Canada 1938 4/BarkerThis is the only photo that I can trace of Eddie Barker (hopefully it is him) and taken at West Ham at the start of the 1938 season. Not very large photo. Attachments:

I'm still waiting with great interest to see the photo of Eddie 'Flash' Barker the all-in wrestler as previously promised. I suspect that, like George Pepper, he started his speedway career at West Ham and never rode in either Canada or the USA pre-war?

Like others I'm still waiting to see other photos of the mini-legend Canadian rider Eddie 'Flash' Barker.

Eddie was far from a mini legend. More another of Mr. Hoskins ploys! In 1937 anything Canadian was the order of the day! The only Canadian he did not seem to have a hand in was Charlie Appleby!!!!
He was a wrestler prior to becoming a novice speedway rider. he shows up in the Team Canada photos by birth only not by speedway qualifications!. Rose for the hawks a few times nd second half races and went out on loan to a couple of tracks whose names fail me at the moment. He went back to wrestling after the war and fought under various names. Flash Gordon and Flash Barker being the best known. Little is recorded on his Wristling career and i am hoping to contact a relative soon to find out more.
Hoping to get my Candian speedway riders web site up and running after i retire in October. Hopefully i will have the time to put all the stuff I have found in the right order for each rider so it will be radable!

Eddie Barker was certainly with West Ham Hawks in NL Division Two in 1938. There is speculation that he also rode at Dagenham in 1937 but this has never been substantiated. He actually won a race at Norwich towards the end of the 1938 season - the only finisher on a rain soaked track - in time I seem to remeber reading was about 104secs! In 1939 Barker was riding in second half events at Crystal Palace during its abruptly ended season in June that year.
