From 1936 until 1960, all World Speedway Championships were raced at Wembley Stdaium. In subsequent seasons, the championship went on to a rotation that also involved European tracks as well as Wembley. The first non-Wembley world championship was at Malmoe, Sweden, in 1961, where Ove Fundin (Sweden) won the title.

I am certain that compiling the lists of London riders for big events must be very difficult. Those involved are doing a good job and I at least would like to thank them for what must be many hours of research. The other detailed sections with teams, test matches and other events, also seem to be falling into place. I have already used one section of the site to settle a dispute with a speedway friend who regarded himself as a speedway know-all and was proved wrong. He even challenged what was on the group but subsequent checking showed who was right - and it wasn't my pal. ;D

Good point Tungate. I hope the remodified title makes more sense to site members. This section has fallen behind schdule at the moment, mainly because of an emphasis on team squads - which still needs quite a lot of additions at the moment!!! |
