Vic scored 14 - only beaten in his first ride by Alec Statham in heat 4. Alec & Ron Johnson scored 13 each with Ron winning the decider to take 2nd place leaving Alec in 3rd
This was the year that the BBC cut the run-off from the broadcast as they "didn't have the time because the 10 o'clock news was due" They then played a gramophone record to fill the gap before the news came on.
But at least the final got coverage on the "wireless" in them days and the people doing the broadcast knew about the sport, not like some of the poor efforts by modern-day "experts" used by Sky TV.
The commentator was Stewart McPherson.
